Dec-21-03   jaime gallegos: A brand new latin-american chessplayer star ? I hope so, his triumph on this torunament facing and beating other players like Gelfand or Nisipenau (250-270 ELO points higher than him !!! ) speaks for himself
Dec-21-03   CapablancaRules: Where is he from? Mexico?
Dec-21-03   shadowmaster: <CapaBlancaRules <Where is he from? Mexico?>> Yuniesky Quezado is about 23 years old and is from Cuba, the land of Capablanca: http://www.chesslive.de/scripts/ser... Congratulations to him for the victory at the Carlos Torre tourney!
Dec-21-03   CapablancaRules: Yeah! Quezado rules too! Congratulations!
Dec-29-03   shadowmaster: Here's a link to an article on chessbase regarding the Carlos Torre Memorial and Quezada as well as some other tournaments: http://www.chessbase.com/newsdetail... There seems to be a little discrepancy regarding Quezada's age in the article vs. the info in the Chessbase player DB. Also, the Chessbase DB needs to be updated to show that Quezada has the IM title. If he keeps this up, he'll soon be a GM :-D
Dec-29-03   shr0pshire: Hmmm, 7 move draws? He can be the next Yermolinsky at this rate.

I would love to see Quesada make to be a strong Grandmaster, but we have enough strong grandmasters that draw at 10 moves. I don't think I would like to see one more that draws games that early.

technical draw: By looking at his photo I would say he is left-handed. Wasn't Capablanca also left-handed?
Dec-29-03   Kaspablanca: Capablancarules: I always wondered why most Americans think all Latin Americans are from Mexico?. Quezada is a very strong Cuban player, he came to my country and beat all the best chessplayers here. I played him in a simul in my town and he beat me badly, he is very polite and some like a shy person.
Dec-29-03   jaime gallegos: There is a cuban diaspora of chess trainers and players ... many of them are working on Latinamerica, Spain and USA.
Dec-29-03   square dance: <technical draw> what in this photo makes you think quezado is a lefty?
