 | | Alien Math: Hello and thank you for greetings :)
Have notes for | Google plans today to begin warning Internet users if their computers show telltale signs of being infected with the DNSChanger Trojan. The company said the warning http://krebsonsecurity.com/wp-conte... (pictured above) will appear only when a user with an infected system visits a Google search results property (google.com, google.co.uk, etc.), and will include the message, “Your computer appears to be infected.” Google security engineer Damian Menscher said the company expects to notify approximately a half-million users in the first week of the notices. To address these concerns, Google is steering users of infected systems to a set of instructions that include steps to eradicate DNSChanger and to third-party cleanup tools that may help scrub infections from other malware. http://krebsonsecurity.com/2012/05/... Menscher said Google will be displaying the warning in dozens of different languages. |

 | | dakgootje: The interesting thing about the Đ is, that when you make it an emoticon :Đ it's a face with a nail through its tongue.
In which situation, I would stick my tongue out as well, for everyone to see - and hopefully for someone to call an ambulance. Of course, the pierced-tongue symbol also has a more official meaning. This is in linguistics actually, where it's used frequently to describe the quality of words to be 'painfully impractical'. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Hanh> Epic article on Keres and many others from that Italian site. However, when I went to the home page and typed "keres" into the site search box, a Google Chrome warning box came up to deny access. Warning box gave link to proceed to web page, but warned that active malware had been identified on it, and advised not to proceed. Possible further research? Offer thanks in advance if you can solve this mystery because I really want to use that website. |

 | | Alien Math: Internet address system set for major upgrade | http://www.news.com.au/technology/i... The switch occurs Wednesday at 12:01am GMT (9.01am AEST), when the internet system shifts to a new standard that allows for trillions of "IP" numbers or addresses, up from the current four billion. Known as the World IPv6 launch - a system which recognises 128-bit addresses as opposed to IPv4's 32-bit addresses. The full transition will take several years, and old IPv4 devices and networks should continue to function as before. |

 | | Alien Math: In wake of leaks, password scambler author says algorithm 'no longer safe'
http://www.technolog.msnbc.msn.com/... "The md5crypt password scrambler was created in 1995 by yours truly and was, back then, a sufficiently strong protection for passwords," wrote Poul-Henning Kamp in a blog post Thursday. "I consider it no longer safe for any use." http://phk.freebsd.dk/index.html Camp says by "salting, or adding a few extra characters to the mix as it gets encrypted, it makes decryption much tougher. So now, more advanced cryptography like Blowfish and/or SHA-1 will need to be used to 'raise the bar,' especially when used with salting. |

 | | Alien Math: Adobe patches critical Flash bugs, ships sandboxed plug-in for Firefox June 8, 2012 03:20 PM ET |
http://www.computerworld.com/s/arti... Computerworld - Adobe today patched seven critical vulnerabilities in Flash Player -- the fifth security update so far in 2012 -- and released a sandboxed plug-in for Mozilla's Firefox. The company also released the "silent update" tool for OS X, and said it had prepped Flash for the upcoming OS X 10.8, aka Mountain Lion, by signing its code, a requirement if users are to install software downloaded from sources other than Apple's own Mac App Store. "These updates address vulnerabilities that could cause a crash and potentially allow an attacker to take control of the affected system," said Adobe in an advisory published Friday. Flash Player was upgraded Friday to version 11.3 for Windows and OS X, to 11.2 for Linux and to 11.1 for Android. As of 3 p.m. ET, Google had yet to update Chrome, which includes its own version of Flash, to gives its users the patched edition. |
