Welcome to the Blunder Dome!!!

I am your host, the self-proclaimed Bishop of Blunder.

For those of you looking for my rough essay, "How I Became a Chessplayer", it has been moved to my not so recently opened MySpace page, http://www.myspace.com/bishopofblun... .

However, I have given up on MySpace. For 'tis a silly place. Therefore, I have moved on to Twitter (BishopofBlunder) and Fakebook (Mark Burns). Feel free to join me in either place.

I also have a blog (who doesn't) of little consequence which keeps changing names. It is now called: Bathtub Gin (url= http://nothing-n-nobody.blogspot.com)

<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Some of my favorite chess quotes:

<"If it were just a question of winning or losing, if it were not possible to play a brilliant game, to make an incredible queen sacrifice, to play the occasional shocking or outrageous move, then I suspect many people would not play chess. It simply would not be worth it; such a difficult game and with so few rewards."> --- Jonathan Levitt

<"One of the biggest misconceptions about chess is it requires a lot of memorization. In reality, while some memorization is required, pattern recognition plays a crucial part in chess mastery."> -- Susan Polgar

After we have paid our dutiful respects to such frigid virtues as calculation, foresight, self-control and the like, we always come back to the thought that speculative attack is the lifeblood of chess. --- Fred Reinfeld

There are only two kinds of moves in the opening, moves which are wrong and moves which could be wrong. --- Tartakower

<"I am NOT a NUMBER! I am a FREE MAN!>

-- No. 6

<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

I would like to also add a special "howdy" to my favorite kibitzer, and adopted love child, jessicafischerqueen chessforum , whom I care for so much that I can even forgive her for being Canadian.

<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

My favorite chess masters are:

Paul Morphy

Robert James Fischer

Mikhail Tal

All my favorite players are dead. That should tell you something about my game.

<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

I am an infrequent visitor to FICS ( http://www.freechess.org/ ) to play chess online. My moniker there is <DissidentAggresor> (note only one 's' in aggresor due to username length restrictions). My ratings, as of 12/01/2011, are blitz: 1282, standard: 1583. However, these are still provisional. I have only played a few rated games.

I am a basic member at http://www.chess.com/ where I am currently unrated but have delved into the world of correspondence chess. Drop by and ask for a game (if you can afford the stamps :)). My name there is also <DissidentAggressor>. I also plan to play live chess there if I can ever find the time.

Additionally, I play correspondence chess at http://www.chessworld.net/ . Guess what? My user name there is Dissident Aggressor.

I am also a member at http://gameknot.com (for correspondence chess) under the moniker: BishopofBlunder and at http://chesscube.com (for live chess) under the name: DisAggressor.

I prefer over the board (OTB) chess to the internet version. Internet chess is to OTB chess what cybersex is to real sex. It's still fun, but is decidedly less satisfying.

Please enjoy my forum and feel free to discuss any subject you like. I'm easy.

Wow! I haven't been on my account on myspace in forever (I'm too good for it now that I am on Fakebook and Twitter). I am surprised it is still active. I guess nothing ever dies on the internet.

Thanks for bringing this up, <LMAJ>. I had forgotten I had written all that.

No worries, mate. Everyone is allowed their opinion. That's why they call it art... or something.

Anyway, we can agree on Glengarry Glenross. Excellent film with loads of fine actors, including Mr. Jack Lemmon, who may be my favorite of all time. Also starred, in a rather small role, a man who I think is one of the finest actors of his generation, Alec Baldwin. Unfortunately, no one will remember him that way because he has taken the William Shatner route and become a caricature of himself. Oh well, it's a livin'.

Thanks for dropping by the house! Take your shoes off. Sit a spell. Y'all come back now, ya hear.

OhioChessFan: <Everything is going swimmingly. Although, last week somehow, someone obtained my debit card number and went on a shopping spree, leaving me practically penniless. Not to worry though, I will get the money back, eventually. It just takes a few days after I file a fraud claim with the bank. What fun, eh?>

I once was on the hook at a local restaurant for my family's bill of $500. They came back and said the credit card was maxed. I always pay it off each month, so I knew immediately I had a big problem. It turns out someone had gone on a shopping spree with my card. The limit was $2000, they used up every penny, and the last few dollars had been a charge to the concession stand at a local theater. Unbelievably, the person had made a charge to credit their local phone and electric bill accounts! Through a masterful investigation that would make CSI proud, Visa was able to determine exactly who it was that used my card. I told the Visa rep who handled the situation if they gave me the person's name and address, they could keep the $2000. She told me very seriously she could not facilitate any acts of revenge on my part. I think I was just kidding with her. Maybe.

<You know, I am accustomed to having an empty bank account. I am just not accustomed to having someone else empty it for me (with the exception of the ravishing Mrs. Blunder, of course).>

Reminds me of the time a chat room friend announced his credit card had been stolen. Everyone expressed great concern and asked what he would do. He replied that he wouldn't report it since he figured that person was spending less than his wife did anyway.

Never fear, my friend. I don't have anything against "The King." Quite the opposite actually. It is just that every great director has his "bomb", and John Carpenter's was his Elvis movie. In my not-so-humble opinion, of course.

And for some odd reason, Chessgames decided to keep all the old posts handy in case I came crawling back. Reminds me of my wife -- she doesn't throw anything away either (excepting my money, of course)

CG never deletes the old posts. If someone's premium membership lapses, the forum just becomes "hidden." You can still find posts in them with the <search kibitzing> function. If someone renews, as you recently did, everything "reappears," although they were never really gone.

Yes, I realized that when my wife starting referring to the money that she made as "her money" and the money that I made as "our money".

Thanks for your voice software tip! I tried it but the program kept mispronouncing everything.

BishopofBlunder: Pardon my spam, but the glorious and talented Mrs. Blunder has just published a book which she co-authored with a friend of ours.

The book is detective mystery called "The Freak Show Case" and is available on Amazon. Anyone interested can just search the authors names, Lezlie K. King or Brian D. Eyre. Or simply click here:

I hear it makes a wonderful Christmas gift.

You'll be pleased to hear I bought the infamous Potboiler in question. It should arrive at my Mom's house in Canada before I do this January for my vacation.

This book better be good! If not, you'll hear from my lawyer, <hms123>.

Thanks for the royalty payment (get it? Queen, royalty?). Anywhy, as for the quality of the book, if you like a certain part, my wife wrote it. If you don't like a part, it was written by that other guy.

Thanks again. And if I haven't told you before, I think your chess documentaries are outstanding. (and I'm not just saying that because you're supporting me financially)

No problem. But, personally, I prefer to skip the arraignment and move straight to trial. Everyone knows I am guilty anyway.

I play correspondence chess on chessworld.net and I just finished first in my first tournament, a 4 player guest tournament, and received a tournament norm. I finished with 5.5/6. Yea me!!! Now I must go ice down my arm. It is very sore from patting myself on the back.
