We're kind of hitting a stonewall. Any assistance you can offer is most appreciated! Topalov vs Karpov, 1998 |

 | | whiteshark: re Alekhine vs Von Feldt, 1916 <Calli>, wouldn't your serious question regarding this game vanish into thin air if you'd reconsider this post: May-20-06
<Quirinus: In his book "Meine besten Partien 1908-1923", Berlin / Leipzig 1929, Alekhine gives the following information: <"Gespielt in einer Blindlings-Vorstellung von 6 Partien im Militärspital zu Tarnopol im September 1916".> His opponent's name is given as "M.Feldt". Here the game ends with 18.Nh4#.> ? At least the publication date 'in Moskovskiya Vedomosti on 3 December 1916 (Gregorian calendar)' would have been within the realms of possibility. |

 | | Calli: AA published the game in various publications in the early 1920s. The pamphlet "Schachleben in Sowiet Russland" and "Schweizerische Zeitung" among them. He gave the year as 1917 in Schachleben. Even then his date caused some questions. Edmond Lancel, editor of La Nation Belge, showed a letter by AA with the game and the wrong date. By 1929, AA may have corrected it himself or perhaps the German editor fixed it because the Moskovskiya Vedomosti publication was, by then, well known. The "My Best Games" manuscript was in French. How much AA was involved in translations is unknown. Voronkov has some ideas about "Feldt" and this game. I should probably update the description. |
