"The worship of Caissa is, however, so alluring, so fascinating, that the mind, after an interval of repose, returns to it with renewed vigour, greater hope, and redoubled erergy, intent on wresting the palm of victory from the majority of opponents. "

*** The Gentleman's Magazine, 1881

I played competitive chess as a kid inspired by the 1978 match Korchnoi vs. Karpov, and chessgames.com has renewed my enthusiasm for the game. I play occasionally at chess.com and gameknot.com, with more or less accuracy.

I think the greatest players are/were Kasparov, Fischer, Capablanca, Alekhine, Lasker, Morphy, Anand, and Kramnik, but my favorite players are Tal, Nezhmetdinov and Bronstein.

Up-and-comers I like: Magnus Carlsen, Hikaru Nakamura, Anish Giri and Fabiano Caruana.

Other interests include:

Karate, music, reading, food, drink, people, business, hard rock, guitars, scrabble, poker, weightlifting, performance, competition, action, lounging, being lazy, gardening, movies, sleeping, and working outside in bad weather.

Nov-06-10  carelessfills: 24.Ne1 for now to see if anyone else goes that way. I'm looking at it, and preliminary results are not that bad. i'm not sold on it myself, but think it's a decent silly try, and it was surprisingly decent for our 23rd.

btw - a bit surprised at <DanLanglois> vote. So I took another look, as he usually has very good ideas. Sorry Dan can't agree for once. Hope I'm not wrong.

Cheers to all!
