 |
| Mar-21-12 | | frogbert: Owen the saints ... |

Mar-21-12
 | | brankat: One of my favourites :-) |

Mar-21-12
 | | brankat: Good luck for #3 and also P-3. May Nuklu be generous! I wonder if I should post the "Nuklu thing" in <pgpl>'s forum :-) |
 |
Mar-21-12
 | | brankat: I guess I placed my bets too early (lack of patience), when W-W-W was at about 7-1, so I dismissed the option. After the dust had settled the odds ended up at 19-1. Damn! :-) But you must have made a fortune :-) |
 |
Mar-25-12
 | | brankat: :-) '-) |
 |
Mar-25-12
 | | SwitchingQuylthulg: <brankat> What happened in those Chess960 games? |
 |
Mar-25-12
 | | brankat: I have not even seen them in about three days. (Finlandia's fault :-)) Thanks for reminding me. I'll go there now, and let You know a bit later. |

 | | dakgootje: Seems like we almost completely shared yesterdays DDB-card. On a total of 213, you apparently had 100 and I think I had 88. Which leaves just 25 for some other chap(s) ;) |
 |
Mar-26-12
 | | SwitchingQuylthulg: And you two call <me> lucky?! |
 |
Mar-26-12
 | | dakgootje: Of course - there was an excessive amount of value on that bet. Less then 2% implied whereas I had it down at 3.6-3.7% So if my percentage would be correct, prices should've been almost half of what they were now. Now that's a lot of value ;) |

 | | brankat: Two Luckies are very close now. Looks almost like a Draw! |
 |
Mar-27-12
 | | dakgootje: <Two Luckies are very close now. Looks almost like a Draw!> He outlucked me today in a most terrifying fashion.
Naturally, that means I'll settle for the dangerous-underdog role the following rounds - for a chance of a come-from-behind victory. Sport film-lore tells us those have about a 50/50 success-rate. |

It really says everything about Black's position that even with that extra queen on f8 you're still lost :) |

 | | brankat: Oopps, and sorry, there is nothing on <f8> :-) |

| Mar-29-12 | | kudubux: Hello <Switchie>!
Sadly, I never had a chance to get copies of my Uncle's own games. What he left was a box full of handwritten notes of games that formed part of his repertoire. The notes contained games (mostly) of Nimzovich, Reti, Bagirov and Larsen. He liked hypermodern stuff and always had an admiration for Bent Larsen's style. He favored flank openings--- notable was his fondness for 1...b6 and like his hero, he sought complications. Often, he would sacrifice material with or without compensation--- all for his own enjoyment! He had his own chess quote:
" There are three kinds of sacrifices: correct ones, Tal's and mine!" In 2009, <positionalgenius> organized a tournament at Queenalice with players we knew of here. Round 1 saw me playing White against <TheAlchemist>. A day before the tournament, I met up with my uncle. He dared me to play like him and so I did! Here is what happened with my game...
1. d4 f5 2. c4 Nf6 3. Nc3 e6 4. Nf3 Bb4 5. Qb3 a5 6. a3 a4 7. axb4 axb3 8. Rxa8 Nc6 9. Nb5 d6 10. Bg5 h6 11. Bxf6 gxf6 12. d5 exd5 13. cxd5 Ne7 14. Nfd4 Nxd5 15. Nxf5 Qd7 16. e4 Nxb4 17. Nbxd6+ cxd6 18. Bb5 Nc6 19. Rxc8+ Qxc8 20. Nxd6+ Ke7 21. Nxc8+ Rxc8 22. Kd2 1-0 Postmortem engine analysis by <zanshin> literally killed whatsoever art & beauty I strived for in this game. But I certainly paid tribute to my Uncle! (And you can applaud my not-so-boring-and-dull-effort here) |

 | | moronovich: hi´<Switch> you are really going for the #1 spot ! Hats off and a good weekend to you. Has spring arrived yet i Finland ? |
 |
Mar-30-12
 | | SwitchingQuylthulg: <kudubux> Your uncle was a 1...b6 player? Now I feel even more sorry about his passing... :( It's a pity if none of his games survived, but at least his spirit survives in your game above! <Postmortem engine analysis by <zanshin> literally killed whatsoever art & beauty I strived for in this game. But I certainly paid tribute to my Uncle! (And you can applaud my not-so-boring-and-dull-effort here)> Yes, definitely not dull and boring at all, and would it really have been as good a tribute to him if it had been sound? :-) |
 |
Mar-30-12
 | | SwitchingQuylthulg: <moronovich> Nice to see you dropping by, too. Yes, things have been going my way this Bookie leg, though <dakkie>'s still fighting back :-) It's snowing outside right now... ;-) But spring is definitely arriving. I guess you guys has received a heat wave warning? ;-) <kudubux> <moronovich> Have a nice weekend! |
