 | | brankat: Hi <Switch>.
Today I was re-reading one of Your old posts (March-08-2008), which is a humorous critique of all of the "classical" line champions, from Steinitz to Kramnik. A posting masterpiece, deserving a status of chess-lore icon! I wonder whether it would be OK with You if I was to re-post the text in my forum as one of the "proverbs. Thank You. |

 | | SwitchingQuylthulg: This one I guess: Vladimir Kramnik The good old times... Feel free to use it, though I fear it's not very proverbial. If you want it in proverb form, try this: "The old champion is like a fridgeful of beer - with any luck you can finish him off eventually, but by then he's mostly empty and half a dozen other guys have turned up." - Immigrant Canadian proverb |

 | | brankat: Thank You Switch. I'll use them both. |

 | | brankat: Dear friend!
Wishing You all the best for Christmas Holidays. |
 |
| Dec-28-10 | | kudubux: <Mr. Christmas Tree> Thank you for dropping by my forum.
Uhmm I happen to dig symphonic metal especially Nightwish. They're your countrymen. I was just wondering if they ring a bell to you? |
 |
Dec-29-10
 | | ahmadov: Happy Holidays! |
 |
Dec-29-10
 | | SwitchingQuylthulg: <ahmadov> Welcome back! <kudubux> I know who they are but not all that well; I couldn't name any of their songs or albums. (In fact, I don't listen to any music much, for reasons largely unclear even to myself...) They got a lot of media attention here a few years back when they kicked out their lead singer and eventually got a replacement, so even I haven't managed to stay completely ignorant ;-) |
 |
| Dec-29-10 | | kudubux: You're not listening to any music? You must be working in Antartica! :) Must be one hell of firing someone! I liked the former female singer, though. I wish I have the same media attention when I got...ooopppsss never mind. |

 | | Chnebelgrind: Happy New Year! It is time for a ChessBookie Champion of the World <SwitchingQuylthulg>. Although there are quite a few people who will try to prevent it ;-) |

 | | WannaBe: Congratulations, you have won a share of the Caissar Award in the Best Handle/Name Category, for 2010! |
 |
Jan-05-11
 | | SwitchingQuylthulg: Wow, I actually won one third of a Caissar, something not many have ever managed ;-) Despite not even being the most misspelled name anymore! Thanks everybody, including the people who voted my rivals; without them, I'd have won a much more boring and mundane full Caissar. |
 |
Jan-05-11
 | | jessicafischerqueen: Congratulations <Owls>! Yes, you've achieved the elusive "third," along with three other people, unless I've got my maths wrong. |

 | | Honza Cervenka: Call for Aneta’s voters! Vote early, vote often!
We are losing the race with a great favourite Alex Loukota. Despite of getting in just two days more votes than in both previous one week long rounds the gap between leader and our girl is widening more and more. They are ahead of us for more than one thousand votes now. Your help is much needed! If you want to support Aneta, just click on http://kladensky.denik.cz/miminka/m..., flag the name <Aneta Červenková> in the grey box on the right side of the screen and hit the <hlasovat> button below. If you see a notification “Děkujeme za váš hlas” (Thank you for your vote) after that, then you have voted successfully. And if you see a notification “Došlo k opakovanému hlasování” (Repeated voting has occurred), then you should try to vote a bit later again....:-D |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: QUESTION:
If I feel "nostalgic" about <gory pagan festivals>, do you think that means I need to get help? If so, from what quarter?
Like, should I start seeing a psychiatrist, or should I hire a chess coach? Frankly I'm a little confused about the whole issue. |
 |
Feb-15-11
 | | SwitchingQuylthulg: <jessicafischerqueen> In my experience, the best way to deal with nostalgy is to yield to it. You want to watch all those old movies again, you don't just sit still silently missing them, do you? No, you go and steal them from someplace. Similarly, if you want old pagan festivals back again, you should go somewhere they still happen. You're already partway there: you've joined the neo-pagan cult of Nucluz, originally worshipped as a sun god in early medieval Schwarzwald. Unfortunately, this doesn't seem to have satisfied your hunger for gore. I would suggest any of three courses of action: 1) Assume a more active role in the cult you're already in. Go to the elders and demand more and gorier festivals. 2) Join any number of other cults. Pagan religions tend to be polytheistic so you can safely worship other gods without abandoning Nucluz. 3) Build a time machine and fast-forward to the next winter festival. You'll probably get a couple Nobels to boot. |
 |
Feb-16-11
 | | jessicafischerqueen: Good grief did you just make up the word "Nucluz"?
At first I thought it might be a <HP Steak Sauce Lovecraft> god, so I googled it and came up with this: <Hyginvs et Polybius de castris romanorum > by "Hyginvs and Polybius."
Please tell me you haven't read this book, which is in Latin. I'm askeered. |
