"You must take your opponent into a world where 2 + 2 = 5 and all paths leading out are only big enough for one."

-Mikhail Tal

"There are two kinds of sacrifices; sound ones, and mine."

-Mikhail Tal

"If playing chess were a crime, I would be an outlaw."

-Mikhail Tal

"Chess is my world. Not a house, nor a castle where I can hide from life's troubles, but precisely a world; a world where I can express myself."

-Mikhail Tal

"Chess is a game by form, an art by content, and a science by its difficulty in gaining mastery in it. Chess can convey as much happiness as a good book or a work of music can. However, one must learn to play well and only then will one experience true delight."

-Tigran Petrosian

And in conclusion...

There are 3 kinds of people in this world; the ones that can count, and the ones that can't.

morfishine: Hello <Tal7777777> I hope you and your family have a prosperous New Year!

I have received your draw offer. I would like to review the position for another day.

Best, Morf

morfishine: Hi <Tal7777777>! I accept your draw offer, mainly because I feel a bit sheepish having played 12...Rxc3. If there is such a thing as having moved too quickly in a slow-paced game, this is surely it.

If you feel like working thru some post-mortem positions, please drop off some diagrams. I will prepare some as well.

Meanwhile, I will continue the game vs my ancient computer and see what comes of it.

Best, Morf

morfishine: Good morning <Tal7777777> Thanks for the first good laugh of the young year!

I thought you played very well! This game has forced me back to the drawing board: Sicilians haven't been too kind to me as of late. So, its back to MCO and good old-fashioned work

BTW: I don't know if you have access to a PGN editor, but this is one of the best and is highly efficient for analysis: http://www.caissa.com/chess-tools/p...

morfishine: On first look in our game, according to <OE> (Opening Explorer), we left 'book' with <10...Rc8>

Also, according to MCO, with <6...e6> the position transposed from a Najdorf to a Schevingen

morfishine: You can post diagrams using FEN notation. Here's instructions on how to use FEN: FEN Help Page

Any questions on FEN, let me know. You'll find it easy after you've done a couple

I would combine the PGN editor I sent earlier, then once you find an interesting variation, copy the position using FEN

morfishine: <Tal7777777> On your White to play and lose problem, White already lost: The White King has already been captured apparently

morfishine: <Tal7777777> On your question <You're getting tired of these problems aren't you?> No, not really; I'd like to add on the Queen problem with 32 Queens of each color, this is mainly a math problem and that Black can also draw with 1 Queen vs 2 White Queens. So, on the capture where each side has 2 Queens, if the Black recapture results in White capturing the last Black Queen, Black need only decline the recapture. The 2 White Queens can never corner and capture the remaining Black Queen.

It ends up being like the old video game 'PONG'

morfishine: Hello <Tal7777777> I do recall vaguely our first game. I was Black and down an exchange but winning the e-pawn when we decided on a draw. Do you have the game score? I have miss placed. In any case, I look forward to being more active at <CG> in June. Best, morf

morfishine: <Tal7777777> Thank you sir! You are very kind! Tell me, are you a die-hard Cubs fan? I guess there really isn't any other kind of Cubs fan

Well, I hope you and your family have a Great Holiday Season and New Year...and I hope the Cubs have a great year too!

Of course, I am a die-hard Orioles fan, so if our teams meet up, I have to go with the Birds :)
