 | | whiteshark: When I posted <Oh no, please not the Benko.> I have had something different in mind than activating the Albin Gambiteers. Well, <clear the decks for action <!!>> :D |

 | | AylerKupp: <OhioChessFan> It's not only possible but certain. Then again, as everyone who knows me be now will readily agree, I never use a simple character when a lengthy word will do. :-) Then again, I did say that the characters were "magic". So they obviously can transform themselves into words when it suits their mood. |

 | | Thematic Challenge: The game is set up:
Chessgames Challenge: Team White vs Team Black, 2012
Please note that even if you voted, you are NOT automatically assigned to a team quite yet. You still have to go to the page above and click on the "sign-up" link. At that point the software will consult your voting record and assign you to either Team White or Team Black as appropriate. Also note that this forum is NOT for discussing the game in progress. The only appropriate place to discuss the game in progress is the secret team-only discussion forums at the link above. However if you have a question or problem with the software (i.e., not related to any specific position or move) feel free to ask it here. The game starts at noon on April 25th. Good luck to both teams! |

 | | OhioChessFan: Do I get 10 votes for each move? |
 |
| Apr-22-12 | | frogbert: ocf, it depends which team you're on. |
 |

 | | capafan: Administrator: This may not be the appropriate place for this comment, but I know of no other place to voice the comment. My votes were submitted **all** for white and I have been assigned to Team Black??! Did the rationale for assigning players to either side change? |
 |
Apr-23-12
 | | OhioChessFan: <capa> I put in a special request to have you as a teammate. <Thematic Challenge> a link to the new game at Chessgames Challenge would be nice. |
 |

 | | cro777: <OhioChessFan: <capa> I put in a special request to have you as a teammate.> I did the same but <OCF> used a dedicated Administrator connection. |

 | | whiteshark: <Good luck, <Team White>!> (You'll need it.:D) |
 |
Apr-23-12
 | | cro777: Good luck, Team Black!
The best thing to give to yourself is to respect your opponents enough to play 100 percent the whole time. |

 | | chessgames.com: <capafan> <My votes were submitted **all** for white and I have been assigned to Team Black??! Did the rationale for assigning players to either side change?> We are confused at this and will investigate immediately. It's possible that there is a programming error, if so we are very sorry. |
 |
Apr-24-12
 | | OhioChessFan: There's still not a link to this game at:
Chessgames Challenge |
 |
Apr-24-12
 | | chessgames.com: <capafan> We investigated the situation and we found no record of you voting whatsoever. Is it possible you had more than one account, or you neglected to press the submit button, or something like that? Anyhow I am very sorry for the problem, but we can't do much about it now. To change your team assignment would taint the wall of privacy we've erected between the two team forums. I do hope you understand. <all> Does anybody else believe they were assigned to the wrong team? |

 | | chessgames.com: <OhioChessFan: There's still not a link to this game at: Chessgames Challenge> Now there is. By the way, the Thematic Challenge artwork is a painting of the pirate John "Calico Jack" Rackham. Shiver me timbers! |

I assume our forums are not protected from opponents and people who have not signed up yet, even with the "hide this from certain GMs" checkbox. Correct? |
 |
Apr-25-12
 | | crawfb5: <jepflast> Your personal forum is not protected from anybody <except> from a GM playing a game against the membership. The only place to have protected discussions about member vs member games is at the game pages themselves. If you are on Team White, any member of Team Black will still be able to view your personal forum, so post accordingly. |

Apr-29-12
 | | whiteshark: While <1 d4 d5 2 c4 e5> made it with
<Votes for White: <532> | Votes for Black: 533> there are only < 48 <>> 'registered' team members on each side so far. That's a mere 9%. Where's the rest of you? |
 |
Apr-29-12
 | | SwitchingQuylthulg: <whiteshark> Premium members had multiple votes in the opening selection phase, there weren't really 500+ people voting :) |
 |
Apr-29-12
 | | crawfb5: Premium member votes counted as 10 votes each. If we disregard any single votes from nonpremium members for an estimate of 53 premium members voting, then we have 48 of about 53 members registering to play. |
 |
Apr-29-12
 | | whiteshark: <Switch> One man, one vote per opening at choice, innit? <crawfb5> Oh, I see. To put it simple, 91% non-premium gullible voters decided what to play. And the 9% premies have to face the music. Well... :D |
 |
Apr-29-12
 | | crawfb5: <<crawfb5> Oh, I see. To put it simple, 91% non-premium gullible voters decided what to play. And the 9% premies have to face the music. Well...> Um, no...53 premium members equals 530 votes at 10 votes per PM. It's the NPs that were one person, one vote. From the voting page:
<Who can vote? - Any registered member of Chessgames may vote on this form. However, since it's the premium members who will actually be playing what is voted for here, each vote cast by a premium member counts for 10 normal votes. > |
 |
Apr-29-12
 | | whiteshark: <crawfb5> Touché!
(I should have read the page more carefully)
Thanks! :) |

Apr-29-12
 | | gauer: While, since 4. e4 hadn't won the vote of Albin supporters, perhaps next time they'll host a whole thematic tournament of an opening's test: Marshall / Allies vs Lasker, 1904 - the game after around 11. d4 may have been another good one to see debated again - for the opening's primary supporter - Isaac Rice. The idea to play the immortal draw line at draw odds was also interesting. Hopefully 4. Nf3 also stays swashbuckingly exciting. |
