World Cup Prediction Contest is conducted in two stages, group winners and match-play winner.

<Stage 1>

You have to pick 2 teams that will advance out of group play (does not matter first place or second place)

For each correct pick, you will be awarded (handsomely) <ONE POINT>.

16 points possible for this round.

<Stage 2>

Knock out!! Once the bracket is set, you will be asked to predict each game's winner, all the way to the final. (Round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and final game)

Round of 16 <TWO POINTS> for each correct pick

Quarter Finals <FOUR POINTS> for each

Semi-Finals <EIGHT POINTS> for each

Final <SIXTEEN POINTS> for picking the winner

In other words, 16 possible points will be up for grabs for each round, for a total of 80 points.

*** *** *** *** *** *** *** ****

Sample Prediction:

Group A: Egypt, Saudi
Group B: Iran, Morocco
Group C: France, Australia
Group D: Iceland, Nigeria
Group E: Serbia, Switzerland
Group F: Sweden, Mexico
Group G: Tunesia, England
Group H: Japan, Colombia

<You do not pick knock out winners until bracket is final>

Round 16: Iran, Morocco, Australia, Nigeria, Switzerland, Mexico, Tunesia, England

Quarter-Finals: Morocco, Australia, Mexico, Tunesia

Semi-Finals: Australia, Tunesia

Final: Tunesia

<Group play prediction must be made before Russia-Saudi Arabia game starts>

WinKing: Phenomenal job running the Caissar Awards
<WannaBe>! Congratulations on your winning the 'Best Avatar'. Thanks for all of your hard work - sincerely <WK>.

WannaBe: Thank you for participating/participation, congratulations to all, not only the winners, but all the nominees.

Of all the thousands of posters, and thousand more individual posts made, your's stood out to noticed by the peers, and they took the time to nominate you and come back to vote for you.

Until next time, 'The balcony is closed'. As they say. =)

dzechiel: I confess that I have been watching the balloting closely today, and I truly feel honored by the recognition of fellow CG users. Honestly, this will cause me to step up my analysis of the POTD.

I would like to extend thanks to <WannaBe> for running this annual event. Also, thanks to every user who cast a vote for any of the nominees. It's very easy to lurk at let others do all the heavy lifting.

While I have your attention, we have a blitz tournament coming up on March 3rd, see my profile for more info.

Benzol: Regarding the Caissar Awards I sincerely congratulate all the nominees and all the winners. See you all again next time.

YouRang: <WannaBe> Hey, thanks for the note about "Drawma Queen". It brightened up my evening. I'll have to add this to my list of "glorious accomplishments". Unlike most of the other items on that list, this one actually has some merit. :-)

Once: Many many thanks to Wannabe for running the Caissars so well and for keeping us all in check.

And a big thank you to everyone who took part. It seemed to run much more smoothly than other years and also seemed more open and inclusive.

Only one last thing remains. I'd like to invent a "Public Vote" caissar for services to the caissars over the last four years. And my nomination and vote goes to ... <WannaBe>.

Jan-15-12  Pyke: <Wannabe>, thank you for all the hard work and dedication you put into running the <Caissars> over the last years.

FSR: <KKDEREK: <nanobrain> indicated for best analyst (huh?) and funny (?) kibitzer is literally a joke..of course just his people vote on him..>

<nanobrain> was also nominated for Best Game Collections, even though as <WannaBe> pointed out, he had <no> game collections.

Once: I guess that's democracy for you.

As Winston Churchill said: "It has been said that democracy is the worst form of government except all the others that have been tried."

We can probably never eliminate tribal voting, and I don't think we should try. If someone receives an award that their friends engineered for them, then so be it. There will always be that nagging doubt that they didn't really deserve or earn the award. Maybe they will notice that, maybe they won't.

But the rest of us can let is pass with a little wry smile.

Bureaucrat: <As Winston Churchill said: "It has been said that democracy is the worst form of government except all the others that have been tried.">

Kruschev said that the problem with democracy is that you don't know who will win the elections.

Jan-15-12  hms123: <WannaBe> Thanks once again for doing an amazing job with the Caissars.
