WarmasterKron: One of my first games with the Milner-Barry and I'm already convinced that the Caro is busted: [Site " http://gameknot.com/ "] [Date "2009.12.21"] [White "dkirby"] [Black "veercingatorix"] [Result "1-0"] [WhiteElo "1383"] [BlackElo "1423"] 1. e4 c6 2. d4 d5

   Nov-15-09 P Peelen vs Fedorowicz, 1990 (replies)

WarmasterKron: Actually had the idea of this - found all except the line beginning with Be3 (obviously the key move, but this is much more than I usually get on Sundays!).

   Oct-27-09 S Shipov vs V Gagarin, 1994 (replies)

WarmasterKron: <Sneaky> Not sure if this is the one you mean, but it reminded me of this one from Tim Krabbe's site: [DIAGRAM] White to play and draw, A. Herbtsmann/L Kubbel 1937 "White cannot stop the pawn by ordinary means; moves are dictated by family checks on f3; ...

Oct-01-09 Jakovenko vs Carlsen, 2009 (replies)

WarmasterKron: I knew Jakovenko should have played 1.f4.

Sep-30-09 Xie Jun vs J Demina, 1992 (replies)

WarmasterKron: Got 38...Ne2+ easily, spent a bit of time working out the whole line.

Sep-20-09 Imbaud vs Strumilo, 1922 (replies)

WarmasterKron: I looked at Nxe5, but only briefly before deciding it was a spoiler puzzle and I wouldn't be fooled. So I plumped for 9.O-O. Ironically, I'd probably play Nxe5 OTB, more speculatively than anything else.

   Sep-17-09 M Pein vs Anand, 1989 (replies)

WarmasterKron: Perhaps Malcolm Pein is dirty because he writes for the Daily Telegraph.

   Sep-16-09 Vladislav Tkachiev (replies)

WarmasterKron: <BadKnight> Harsh perhaps, but I LOVE the phrase "methylated somnolence" and shall be appropriating it for personal use.

   Sep-14-09 NN vs R Vassilev, 2009 (replies)

WarmasterKron: Easy, first thing I looked at. <TheaN> 5.e3 leads to standard Albin positions, but after <5.Nxd4 Bc5>, 6.e3 does not. With the Black pawn gone, there's obviously no dxe3/exf2 threat.

Jul-12-07  mack: Interesting. Saturdays would be better for me, but the 27th is my birthday and in likelihood I'll be useless on the 28th. I'll have a think about it.

I'm most definitely for this plan in one shape or another.

kellmano: Wow. We're online at the same time. Once you have a weekend in mind let me know and i'll tell you if i'm free. I'm going on holiday at some point this Summer, but i don't know when yet.
Jul-30-07  JDK: Hi <WarmasterKron>, Thanks for the games. You know I think I was really lucky to get away with the draw, but as I am not sure, I am going to spend some time analysing it at my forum. I am useless at endgames so hopefully some bright minds might pop in and help out. Until our next duel! :)

p.s. Brighton is just down the coast from me :) A much nice place to play chess than Pompey!

Aug-02-07  Dr.Lecter: <warmaster> that game really happened in a tourament? Wish I had an opponent like that.

brankat: A very fine post at the "Biel" page, regarding the Earth tremor and Botvinnik. Couldn't have said it better myself :-)

  kellmano: Hi Kron,

Gameknot is at least temporarily unblocked form my work. Fancy a game? From what i remember, we enjoy similar chess! My username, unoriginally, is Kellmano. Send a challenge if you like (no comps)

WarmasterKron: <kellmano> Aye, I'll send you an invite. No comps, obviously, as chess computers are evil. I've used the free version of Rybka to analyse some of my old combinations to make sure that they're totally unsound, but even that makes me feel dirty.

I know I said I'd try and make it down to Brighton over the summer, but I've not had the chance. Let me know if you've got a weekend free though and I can make plans.

kellmano: Right then dude. I have a free space now, so whenever you're ready send a challenge.

White to move - does he have anything better than perpetual check?

Nov-14-07  Towershield: <WK> yes.

WarmasterKron: Fun in the Muzio gambit:

[White "dkirby"]
[Black "NN"]
[WhiteElo "1291"]
[BlackElo "1266"]

1. e4 e5 2. f4 exf4 3. Nf3 g5 4. Bc4 g4
5. O-O gxf3 6. Qxf3 Qf6 7. e5 Qxe5 8. Bxf7+ Kxf7
9. d4 Qf5 10. g4 Qg6 11. Bxf4 Nf6 12. Be5 Be7
13. Nc3 d6 14. Bxf6 Bxf6 15. Nd5 Nd7 16. Nxc7 Rb8 17. Qd5+ Kg7 18. Ne6+ Kh6 19. Rxf6 Nxf6 20. g5+ Kh5 21. Qf3+ Kh4 22.Qg3+ Kh5 23.Nf4# 1-0

I say fun in the Muzio gambit, but there's no such thing as boredom in the Muzio gambit is there?

kellmano: Morning Kron. Hmmmm, you are playing more rubbish than ever eh? I play nothing except 4. Nxf7 in the Petroff these days and it very rarely works for me.

Are you about on the 7th or 8th of August? If so, you simply have no choice but to come to Simpsons in the Strand to watch the Staunton memorial.

  WarmasterKron: A nice little miniature:

Kron (1400) - NN (1434)

1. e4 e5 2. f4 d6 3. Nf3 f6 4. fxe5 fxe5
5. Bc4 Nf6 6. Nc3 a6 7. a4 Bd7 8. O-O Nc6
9. d3 Bg4 10. Bg5 h6 11. Bxf6 gxf6 12. h3 Bh5
13. Nxe5 Bxd1 14. Bf7+ Ke7 15.Nd5# 1-0

There's something oddly satisfying about pulling of Légal's Mate.

kellmano: Hello <Kron> I'm most certainly going to the Staunton memorial on the 8th.

See you there for a pint and some chess.

kellmano: Hello Kron. Back from all holidays and stuff. Didn't see you at Staunton. Possibly cos i didn't stick about too long cos the promised analysis room in bar did not materialise. If you were there, at least you saw Timman beat Short.
Oct-09-08  messachess: I'll take you all on. I'll play with one hand tied behind me. I'll play with one eye shut; standing on one leg--hopping. I'll play while singing "Suite: Judy Blue Eyes" all by myself in four part harmony. I'll play all you Brits. simul. (But you'll have to come to California!)

Jul-14-09  Pyke: Congratulations on your first win for Team Chess Games!

I was quite pleased with 29...Nxf3, seeing 30.Rxf3 Rd3! exploiting the pin on the rook.
