Hi, my name is Greg & I'm 59 years young. I have been playing chess for over 50 of those 59 years. Between the years 1968 & 1990 I was quite active. I was a member of the USCF, CCA(Cleveland Chess Association),Parma Chess Club(south of Cleveland) & captained the Gilmour Academy(Gates Mills,Ohio) chess team 1970 till 1972 when I graduated. My rating during those years(1968-90) fluctuated between 1750 to 1950. Played in the State Championship (OCC-Ohio Chess Congress) a couple of times in the 1980's with modest results (+1,-3,=2 first time & +2,-2,=2 second time). I might have done better but my style is aggressive & it often cost me points in tournaments. Since 1990 I stopped playing competitive chess & still enjoy playing but only casually. My strong suit has always been the analyses of games. I have always had a passion for the game & still do. ______________________________________________

**morfishine's possible improvement to <mindcontrol>'s line:

Instead of 49.h5 white can play 49.Ne5 since the <Nc7> keeps the black queen out of <d5>: 49.Ne5 Ne4 <50.Nd7> Qd4 51.Qf8+ Kh7 52.Qf7+ Qg7 53.Nf8+ Kh6 54.Qf4+ g5 55.hxg+ Qxg5 56.Qf7 Nf6 57.Nfe6

50.Nxe6 fxe6 51.Qc7+ Kf6 52.Nd7+ Ke7 53.Nc5+ Kf6 54.Nxa4 Qxa4 0.21 (27 ply) but I think there is nothing special for white here.

50.Ne8+ Kf8! is a draw, but 50...Kh7? is refuted by 51.Nf6+ Kg7 52.Ned7 and Houdini finds nothing better than the queen sac 52...Qxd7 53.Nxd7 c5 10.68 (26 ply).

Conclusion: 49. Ne5 is playable, but 49... Ne4 or 49... Ne6 are OK for black.

**morfishine: <karpkasp> Yes but after, 50.Ne8+ Kf8 51.Nf6+ Kg7 52.Ned7, white appears to be winning as <g8> is undefended and <Nf4+> is met by <Kh2>

kb2ct - I see no reason to follow Rybka into a 0.00 maze with:

44.Nd6 Qxd1 45.Ne8+ Kf8 46.Nxf6+ Kg7 47.Ne8+ Kf8 48.Nc7

Our pawn never gets pat h7 and the best we can do is force her to force us to take a perp. If you pardon the corny mixed metaphors, it is like going on a wild goose chase to find a red herring. Keeping her confined and taking a perp is more efficient, prettier, and easier for anyone reviewing the game to understand.

44.Nd6 Qxd1 45.Ne8+ Kf8 46.Nxf6+ Kg7 47.Ne8+ Kf8 48.Nf6+ Kg7 49.Ne8+ Kf8 50.Nc7+ Kg7 51.h5 Ra1 52.h6+ Kf6 53.Qh8+ Ke7 54.Qe8+ Kd6 55.Qd8+ Nd7 56.Nh2 Qh1+ 57.Kh3 Rg1 58.Ne8+ Ke6 59.Ng7+ Kd6 60.h7

  WinKing: <karpkasp: <WinKing> FWIW Houdini 1.5 opts directly for a perp after 59. Qxf7 Qg1+ 60. Kf4 Qc1+ 61. Kg3 Qg1+

Apparently, Houdini is more professional than Rybka! :)

It would be interesting to see NP choice here.>

Yeah Rybka is not always the most dignified or aesthetically pleasing of the engines. It always looks for a way to bully you around a bit before it settles for the draw. There are a lot of paths this game could take yet. The biggest probably being 55...Kb6 or 55...Kb4 by black depending on whether white plays 55.Qe7+ or 55.g4.

**Another sideline I found fascinating from my earlier analysis was this one**:

<46.Nxf6+ Kg7 47.Ne8+ Kf8 48.Nc7+ Kg7 49.h5 Ra1 50.h6+ Kf6 51.Qh8+ Ke7 52.Qe8+ Kd6 53.Qd8+ Nd7 54.Ne8+ Kc5 55.g4 Kb4 56.Qe7+>

**Instead of <<61...Qc1+>> in the line above black plays <61...Ra5+> (Diagram below)**

click for larger view

There are some crazy lines that can follow. This is just one of Rybka's line.

<62.Kf6 Qxg4 63.Qb7 Kc5 64.h7 Qxf3 65.Kg7 Nf4 66.h8Q Ne6 67.Kh7 Qh1 68.Kg8 Qxh8 69.Kxh8 Kxd6 70.Qb4 Rc5> (Diagram below)

There are still a lot of different ways this game could play out. I agree with you <karpkasp> it would be interesting to see NP's choice here. Let's see where she goes with this.

  WinKing: **From Answers.com**

<What was the guard chant from 'The Wizard of Oz'?

<O-e-ah, e-o-ah.

Another answer FROM IMDB

"They include "All we own, we owe her"; "Oh we love the old one"; and "Oh we loathe the old one." The screenplay shows that the correct lyrics are "O-Ee-Yah! Eoh-Ah!." The chant acts as a sort of audio inkblot."

But one must consider that IMDB is a user-written source, which may not be accurate. I have searched the screenplay and have found no such lyrics for the Winkies' marching chant. (The guards were called the Winkies)

My BEST ANSWER: I personally knew Meinhardt Raabe, who played the Munchkin Coroner, ("She's most sincerely dead!") ...he, obviously WAS THERE... and he told me they were chanting, "Oh-We-Love...The-Old-One --Oh-We-Love...The-Old-One!" referring to the Wicked Witch Of The West. (Margaret Hamilton). Mr. Raabe died in April of 2010 at the age of 94. I trust the WITNESS to the filming more than any internet database (IMDB).>>
