|Sep-08-10|| ||NakoSonorense: <cg.com>: How are those applications for mobile devices coming along? I mostly follow the kibitzing, but it takes forever to adjust the zoom to make the text readable. An app that makes it easy to do this would be great!|
|Sep-08-10|| ||OhioChessFan: 2 issues. #1, the jumping to the last page of kibitzing on the World Game hasn't been fixed. #2, the move was 4...Bb4+, not 4...Bb4.|
|Sep-08-10|| ||Kinghunt: Would it be possible to add another option to game searches - game type? I know a lot of progress has already been made classifying games into rapid, classical, blitz, blindfold, etc., and it seems like the next logical step would simply be to have the option to filter games by format. Would this be technically feasible, and if so, is chessgames currently looking into implementing it? Thanks!|
|Sep-09-10|| ||Domdaniel: Wouldn't <Spacebar Masters> be premature? Unless previous games count as <Spacebar Norms>?|
|Sep-09-10|| ||dakgootje: No. Spacebar actually is a combination of words, viz. of 'Space' and 'candy-bar' - thus 'candy-bar from space' i.e. Mars.|
In reality we are Marsters, even though the word has been corrupted to 'Masters'. There are no norm-requirements for the title but that you have to have eaten at least ONE (1) candy-bar at any point in your life.

|Sep-09-10|| ||Domdaniel: On the search-kibitz problem: I noticed yesterday that a kibitzing search using the name of one of GM Pogonina's opponents brought up posts from the challenge game. I assumed at the time that they were visible because I was registered to play: Now I'm not so sure.|
|Sep-09-10|| ||OhioChessFan: You are correct, <Dom> I've meant to point that out also. Although one would have to try to access the kibitzing to make it happen, and I think it's understood the blocking of areas is to prevent accidental access, it probably shouldn't be available.|
|Sep-10-10|| ||rapidcitychess: ajile posted this on my forum: : <http://www.zbestvalue.com/images/ca... >|
That's the Carlsen avatar.
Hope I'm not a bother.

Bent Larsen died on September 9th, 2010. It's already being talked about on his page on this site, but I wanted to make sure you guys knew before he doesn't make it as Player of the Day tomorrow (and I still might be too late!).
|Sep-11-10|| ||chessgames.com: Yes we were very sad to hear about Bent Larsen; we have something special planned.|
|Sep-12-10|| ||waddayaplay: <chessgames> I'm not sure if you missed my question on page 346, or if I missed your reply? Thanks.|
|Sep-12-10|| ||whiteshark: <chessgames.com> Please unify the following pages:|
4-->1: http://www.chessgames.com/perl/ches... to Dyner Israel,
but switching 1st + 2nd name to <Israel Dyner>
2-->1: Karina Szczepkowska + K Szczepkowska Horowska to
<Karina Szczepkowska Horowska> (if possible due to length)
Thanks in advance!
|Sep-12-10|| ||chessgames.com: <whiteshark> No problem, that also includes the "B Dyner" which we take to be a typo or middle-name.|
<waddayaplay> I assume this is the one you refer to: <When the game type is set to CLASSICAL, RAPID or BLITZ, I think it would be useful to have that information at the top of the page, where the tournament, opening and result are located.>
We do too, but it's such a new feature and so likely to be inaccurate, that we are being humble about it for now.
<I noticed that all the games from Russia vs The Rest of the World (2002) are rapid, but tagged as classical.>
Russia vs Rest-of-the-World games are all rapid? We actually didn't know that.
<No-one has noticed that before? Should I send in a correction for each game?> No--that was would be a horrible waste of time. Submit one correction, and the "notes" you can type would ideally read something like this
"This game and all others for this tournament (39399) should be set to RAPID."
If you don't know the tournament ID # (it's not always obvious, especially for old games) you can leave it blank and the admin will figure it out.
I just fixed that particular match (99 games set to RAPID from CLASSICAL) so you don't have to submit that very correction.
|Sep-12-10|| ||chessgames.com: Incidentally, our current list of "game types" is not only "classical, blitz, and rapid" -- there are many others. Here's is our complete list with definitions/examples of what they are supposed to encompass:|
CLASSICAL (normal tournament length)
BLITZ (5 minutes per side)
RAPID (e.g. 20 minutes + 10s/move)
QUICK (e.g. 1 hour per side)
CORRESPONDENCE (days per move)
EXHIBITION (like yesterday's Carlsen vs The World, 2010 game -- regardless of time control)
UNORTHODOX (e.g. Fischer Random Chess, or Morphy granting rook odds.)
BLINDFOLD (One or both players cannot visually observe the board.)
ANALYSIS (this game was not played by two people but is a composition or analysis)
OTHER (our catch-all for anything that might possibly not fit in the above categories)
|Sep-12-10|| ||Hesam7: <CG.com> again couple of things (!):|
1. Could you add Kramnik - Aronian playoff games to the Shanghai tournament page? (two blitz and one armageddon)
2. Could you make the type of the game searchable? Like right now if I am interested only in classical games between kramnik and Aronian there is no way of doing it.
|Sep-13-10|| ||twinlark: Hi Ceegee!
I have sent an URGENT Database Correction Form.
|Sep-13-10|| ||kingscrusher: Chessgames: Regarding Bent Larsen (RIP), perhaps all of his three games where he played above Fischer in the 1970 Rest of World match should go into the Notable games list on his homepage. |
At the moment, perhaps there is too much emphasis on the 1.b3 disaster game. He beat Spassky in quite an interesting Nimzo in that special match vs USSR :
From my old Barnet chess club site:

It might be nice to emphasis this win over the fearsome Spassky as well as that 1.b3 loss which everyone knows about.
|Sep-13-10|| ||kingscrusher: BTW 1970 Rest of world vs USSR Match reference where Larsen played above Fischer:|
|Sep-13-10|| ||kingscrusher: Oh btw, he also beat Stein who was 1st reserve to Spassky:|
So four games in all, in that USSR vs Rest of World match, where Larsen played board 1.
|Sep-13-10|| ||crawfb5: As long as we're having Great Dane Week to celebrate the remarkable career of Bent Larsen, how about a quick crush like Bobotsov vs Larsen, 1969 with a pun like <Bent on Destruction> as a GOTD?|
