********** ----- Fritz and Rybka Chess Analysis Engines Forum ----- **********

Hi and welcome.

My name is Peter. I am a USCF Life Member, TD and Certified Chess Coach.

I am in my early 50s and love chess.

My love of chess is far greater than my ability OTB.

I've been back to the game for 5 years after a 30 year gap.

My wife and I are patrons of chess in our area.

Please help us create more chess for everyone.

chesstoplay: I'd like to see Yury repeat. His current USCF rating is 2724. However, Alex O. seems to be in a very, very serious training mode and may be the one this year.

  zanshin: <chesstoplay: Hi <z>... How different is R3 versus R3 Aquarium?>

<Peter> I don't understand the question. Do you mean the differences between R3 in Chessbase vs in Aquarium? If so, my general feeling is that they have similar functionalities (and of course, exactly the same engine), but the Chessbase product is better for maintaining chess databases, and Aquarium is better for analysis.

Open Defence: IMHO Aquarium has some limitations in book learning options so those who primarily use the engine for engine vs engine competitions may not prefer Aquarium perhaps

It's at http://www.freesoft.org/software/ho...

Check it out, but know that I've got newer code that handles complex pawn formations a lot better. I'll do a new release shortly.

  YouRang: Quarterly award:

There are a number of names that come to my mind. For now, I'll just suggest some "nominees" --

<DPLeo>, <DanLanglois>, <zsoydd>, <pawndookie>, <mworld>, <edda zeitz>, but I'm sure there could be others.

It's a difficult call.

hms123: <Peter> First, thanks for the kind words.

Second, as <YouRang> indicated, there are lots of good choices this time. My list would be something like <DPLeo>, <DanL>, and <Nickster> in roughly that order (but very close).

There are certainly lots of others (<edda zeitz> and <pawndookie> in particular) who should be considered.

Thanks for doing this.

YouRang: A hard choice: We pick 3?

I'll go with <pawndookie>, <DPLeo> and <DanLanglois>.

But others are equally worthy, IMO.
