I aint got many friends in this place but you are not only a valued friend and mate but also one cool dude to boot ! re.. Rubber Soul... Well until now I've rated and liked the immediate predecessor and immediate successor as better.. So it's due for another listen on my part. And it will get one.> Yo Harry, there is an interesting trilogy in rock music history. Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys heard (the American version of Rubber Soul), & said, "I get it, singles are dead"! So he took a new approach to music by trying to out do The Beatles musically. Hence Pet Sounds was painstakingly recorded. When Lennon & McCartney heard Pet Sounds they listened to it all night with The Beach Boys drummer, which made the Beatles main writers concentrated on 1 upping Pet Sounds with musical notes of 7th's & 9th's. So on an airline flight from The U.S. back to England McCartney got the idea of doing an album of alter ego Beatles, which was Sgt. Peppers. On this record The Beatles achieved musical superiority to Pet Sounds! P.S. McCartney to this day is great friends with Brian Wilson. Paul has said Pet Sounds is his favorite album. Brian Wilson says that probably the best record he ever heard was Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band. ; P |

Amazing how all the big acts in the 60's fed off each other and gained inspiration from each other... Truly sublime time for music. I can listen to Brian Wilson's songs all day long.. Never ever grow tired or bored with The Beach Boys. Just seems like you say .. Whenever Brian turned up things a notch The Fabs just replied in kind... 'Revolver' must fit into this too . But bottom line is I reckon they ALL needed each other to feed off.. |
