Welcome, all! This is the place for frivolous commentary, serious commentary, and cogent discussion.

My favorite wines:

Matted Elk (red), March 2012

Matted Elk (red), April 2012

Matted Elk (red), May 2012

Matted Elk (red), June 2012 (limited bottling, no longer available)

Matted Elk (red), July 2012

I am looking forward to the release of the August 2012 vintage.

Work, the what's-its-name of the thingummy and the thing-um-a-bob of the what d'you-call-it. (P. G. Wodehouse)

You have to bring some funk to get some. You can't just walk in a place and expect to get some funk. If you ain't bring no funk, then you can't get no funk..Another thing is, you can't fake the funk or your nose will grow. (Bootsy Collins)

If a woman has to choose between catching a fly ball and saving an infant's life, she will choose to save the infant's life without even considering if there is a man on base. (Dave Barry)

  hms123: <Rinus Award Nominations>

<Once: <hms123> Happy to help. Can I make multiple nominations or is it one vote per person?

If I can nominate more than one, my three nominations would be: sevenseaman, lovethatjoker and gofer.>

Premium Chessgames Member
morfishine: Dear <hms123> This award is a great idea! I'll send over a nomination soon (my first choice doesn't like accolades and that sort of stuff). Thanks for thinking of me. Best, Morf

David2009: <Rinus Award Nominations> I'll split my vote <sevenseaman> and <gofer>, half each. Like your hat! Cheers, David

jessicafischerqueen: <H> thanks for the <Gary, Indiana> tip. He's remarkably intelligent eh?
Premium Chessgames Member
FSR: <Once> already nominated these nominees, but I agree that <sevenseaman> and <LoveThatJoker> are eminently worthy.
Premium Chessgames Member
FSR: <hms123> I solved that Zueger-Landenbergue position, but only after I had seen your demonstration of ...Bc3+! in the other position. I greatly doubt that I would have found Qg7+!!! over the board. White's position looks completely resignable, and the resource 36.Qg7+!!! Bxg7 37.Rxg7+ Kxg7 38.Bxf8+ Kxf8 39.Nxh3 Nxh3 (not forced, but otherwise White can play Nxg5, with three pieces for the queen) 40.Nf3!, trapping the queen, is amazing and unexpected. This would make a great Sunday puzzle.

morfishine: At the risk of being berated I nominate <sevenseaman>. I would also like to nominate <LoveThatJoker>. I have a couple more in mind but need to verify if they've upagraded or not.

You've got a lot of nerve!! @#$%! (Just kidding.)

Feb-20-12  JG27Pyth: I nominate <Once> and <Dzechiel>, but they've already been nominated right?

hms123: <Jg27Pyth> Thanks for the nominations, but we are looking for nominations of <non-premium> members. <Once> and <dzechiel> are already premium members. Please feel free to nominate some others.

  hms123: Here's a nice <invisible move> problem from Levitina vs B Marinello, 1994

In this position

Marinello played <34....Kf7?>. What should she have played?

Premium Chessgames Member
OhioChessFan: By George, I got it right. Only took a second since I knew it was a problem position. Not sure if I'd have seen it OTB though! Talk about an obstruction! Definite POTD material there.
Feb-20-12  Patriot: I nominate <sevenseaman>.
Premium Chessgames Member
hms123: <OCF> It's not a hard puzzle--just look for the most unlikely move. OTB, that's another story. Glad you liked it.
Premium Chessgames Member
WinKing: A nice blocking/sacrificial type problem <hms123>. Very nice!

morfishine: <hms123> Latest Invisible move Levitina vs B Marinello: <1...Bf5> Wow!

Premium Chessgames Member
dzechiel: I'd like to place the names of <gofer>, <RookFile> and <JG27Pyth> into nomination for the Rinus Award.
Feb-22-12  pkkandel: i nominate <sevenseaman>

morfishine: Good Evening <hms123>! Whens the vote for the award?
Premium Chessgames Member
  hms123: <morfishine>

I intend to wait long enough to get as many nominations as possible and then ask winking and kutztown46 for their input. Then the three of us will read posts from the finalists and come to a decision. So it may be another week or so before announcing a winner.

Feb-23-12  benjinathan: I nominate <newzild>.
