Welcome, all! This is the place for frivolous commentary, serious commentary, and cogent discussion.

My favorite wines:

Matted Elk (red), March 2012

Matted Elk (red), April 2012

Matted Elk (red), May 2012

Matted Elk (red), June 2012 (limited bottling, no longer available)

Matted Elk (red), July 2012

I am looking forward to the release of the August 2012 vintage.

You have to bring some funk to get some. You can't just walk in a place and expect to get some funk. If you ain't bring no funk, then you can't get no funk..Another thing is, you can't fake the funk or your nose will grow. (Bootsy Collins)

hms123: <benjinathan> Thanks for the nomination. How is it going up there in the frozen, but more politically sane, northern climes?
Feb-23-12  benjinathan: <h> Things are great up here. Winter decided not to make an appearance this year- barely any snow at all and temperatures far above normal. Ice fishing canceled, ski hills in ruins, crocuses up.

I remain uncomfortably busy- barely keeping my head above water.

I am looking forward to the NCAA's. Isee that Vandi is listed as a bubble team- I dont' believe it. I think they will get in comfortably and have a good chance to do well.

Hope all is well with you.

hms123: <benjinathan> Vanderbilt is a lock for the NCAA tournament, especially after beating South Carolina last night (VU is now at 20 wins.) I have seen seeding estimates ranging from as high as 4 to a low of 7.

My own guess is that they will be a 5 seed. Their RPI was 25 before last night's win.

playground player: <hms123> Let's see, now... Roommates hate each other's guts, so one stabs the other to death... and it's the apartment complex management's fault???

You're right--very hard to fathom indeed.

Feb-23-12  benjinathan: I didn't see the Gamecocks win. You are right -they are money. Especially given the orienation of the selection committe to judge teams based on conference.

Should be fun if they are at full strength.

Premium Chessgames Member
hms123: <benjinathan> You have got to watch John Jenkins shoot three's. As the coach likes to say, the first sound you hear is the ball hitting the floor.

Ezeli is a legit pro prospect at center. Jeffrey Taylor is one of the best athletes in the country and he can also shoot the 3 along with spectacular dunking and some fancy driving of the lane. Jenkins and Taylor are 1 and 2 in scoring in the SEC.

You should have seen the game against Mississippi the other night--VU scored over 100 points (on the road) and looked like they were all-world.

Feb-23-12  benjinathan: I have only seen them once this year and that was early when some guys were out. This is good info for my bracket... 1 and 5 against top 245 is a bit worrisome.

On the other hand I did see Texas A&M/ Kansas last night. zzzzzzz

I'm still alive, believe it or not! Just too lazy to write up those two-sentence posts.

hms123: <Jimfromprovidence> Your suggestion about multiple awards was posted at almost the same time I posted the winners on today's POTD page A Lastin vs Bareev, 2004

Unfortunately, we can't afford to make four awards, but we did decide to make two awards. It is nice to know that at least one other person thought it was a good idea.

Once: And it was going to be my suggestion too! Very good choices - both a credit to this site.

if you decide to edit your profile and change these links, you can right click and copy the links above, or copy the full urls as i've typed them (while remembering to remove the spaces i inserted after 'http:' and 'kibitzing?' to make treat them as regular text).

did you know that you have user forum number 25^2? :o)

hms123: <frogbert> As always, thanks. I will fix them in the morning. Too much good wine at the moment. Isn't it past your bedtime in the land of the midnight sun?

You guys did good with the selections.

The kibitzing level seemed to get better as well because of the contest.

hms123: <Jimfromprovidence> Thanks. I really enjoy reading the POTD page every morning. It is amazing to how good a group you have over there. There are too many superb posters to even begin to name.

<btw, hms123 - these two links in your profile are generally "broken" for anyone but you:>

I logged out and tested the links--both of them worked fine. Then I logged in using my <chessbooksforum> account and tried them. They still both worked.

<did you know that you have user forum number 25^2? :o)>

No, I didn't. How does one find that out?

Premium Chessgames Member
hms123: <benjinathan> Thanks. And that's why we try to reinforce such a good example of how it should be.

Fusilli: <OCF> About that Levitina v Marinello puzzle, I saw it in seconds because I knew it was a puzzle. Like you, I am not sure I would have seen it OTB. Stunning move indeed. (I know this was discussed days ago... catching up with <H>'s forum!)
Feb-26-12  frogbert: hms123, i assume that's because neither you nor the chessbooksforum account has anyone on ignore.

what i pointed out is correct - for ppl with ignore lists (that include kibitzers who have posted in those forums) the two links don't work.

if you really want to see this for yourself, then temporarily add 'hms123' to chessbooksforum's ignore list and try your links as chessbooksforum again.

Premium Chessgames Member
  hms123: <frogbert>

That makes sense. You are correct that I don't have anyone on ignore on either account. I will get the links fixed this evening and test it out by ignoring myself temporarily.

Premium Chessgames Member
hms123: <frogbert> Ignoring myself caused other issues, but I temporarily ignored someone else and saw the problem. The links are now fixed and I understand how to make links like that for my <hms123> account and for the admins account. I am still curious about how to find the forum number for someone.
