 | | chesstoplay: Hi kwgurge,
During my lesson this morning with Yury, I mentioned that you'll be at Foxwoods. I showed him your e-mail and he appreciated your thoughtfulness and consideration. He said that he'd be pleased to meet you.
Yury will have his game mind-set in place, but will still be generally friendly. Catch him early -- after round one or two -- after the early wins, he'll still be very relaxed. Big tournament OTB games as a player is something I've never experienced. I brought my scholastic team to the last Supernationals. ~ 5300 players on the floor.
Coaching through that was very interesting.
Anyway... Best of Luck to you!!

 | | playground player: Hi, Kwgurge--I, too, find that most of the players on Pogo want to play faster games than I'd like. I get around that by hosting the games I play. I generally go for 20 minutes a side, but I don't mind playing without any time limit at all. |

 | | chesstoplay: Hi kwgurge,
How was Foxwoods?
Did you have a good tournament?
Did you get a chance to talk to Yury?
Hope it all went well for you and -- most importantly -- that you had fun. Your friend in chess,

 | | WannaBe: Thanks for the message at my forum, I hope to meet Yury at Chicago later in May! :-) |
 |
| Apr-21-07 | | Artar1: <kwgurge: How are you feeling these days? Are you taking care of yourself?>
Thanks for asking! I am feeling much better!
I have been spending some time away from this game, which I think is healthy, and I am working on my over-the-board game more and more, which has helped my tactical ability. How was it for you to play in a major tournament? I think that was a very brave thing to do! Playing in a high-caliber tournament is a very difficult experience, which must have placed a considerable amount of stress not only on your mind, but your emotions and body as well. Nevertheless, I think you did a good job. Try not to be disappointed in your results. |

 | | chesstoplay: Hi Ken,
I'm with Artar1... I think you had a positive result at a big tournament. You were undefeated in over half of your games, 4 out of 7. In a big tournament with an open section, that is a plus result!! I'm glad that you had a chance to talk with Yury, too. He is very easy to get along with and a true friend to chess. Feel free to share your experience with the World Team. Invite them to introduce themselves to Yury at any tournament or chess event as a chessgames.com fellow player. He'll play in the US Championship and Chicago Open in May. Wannabe is trying to get a group together of chessgame.com players at the Chicago Open to have a dinner or room party or something. Yury has agreed to get together with the group for a bit. Spread the word.
Hope you are having fun with the World Team game against Yury. I can't wait to read a few hundred pages of comments when the game is over!! Have a great weekend. It was nice hearing from you.
Your friend in chess,
Peter / chesstoplay |

| May-23-07 | | zanshin: <kwgurge> I think it's interesting that the only game in your collection was one from Mark Paragua who is a countryman of mine (I'm actually Filipino-American). Why did you choose this game? I'm also curious about your Foxwoods experience. How do they pair you up in tournaments such as this? Thanks for your contributions to Team Black. Win or Lose, this has been a fun and rewarding experience for me. I know how busy you attorneys get and I don't expect answers any time soon ;-) |
 |
| May-25-07 | | zanshin: I've just been chuckling to myself. When I posted to the Team forum telling you I posted a message to your forum, I was thinking to myself 'these guys don't read their own forums'. It turns out I was right ;-) Your reply was waiting had I checked my forum! <Back in my military days in the late 70s and early 80s, I passed through the Phillipines a number of times. Beautiful country and nice people. I also liked the beer and some of the exotic food there.> Thanks for the compliments of my former homeland (I'm naturalized US). I still miss San Miguel beer. Thanks also for the explanation of the tournament seedings at Foxwood. I think it takes a lot of guts to play in OTB tournaments. <Thanks for your efforts in the Team game as well.> You're very kind, but I wish I could actually contribute to the analysis. Unfortunately, like <chesstoplay> my interest in the game is not commensurate with my ability. And I am reminded of how far I have to go when I read analytical posts by you, TCE, RV, Artar1, etc. etc. even Themofro (a 17 year old high school kid!). Still, I find chessgames.com so addictive probably because it is so interactive. That's why the established websites (and even the upstart chess.com) don't compare, imho. Hopefully, in time I might even improve my level of play! |

| Jun-21-07 | | zanshin: <kwgurge> This is cross-posted from <chesstoplay>'s forum: Let me do a <benjinathan> and try to summarize the nominees for you from posts made in this forum as well as the GMYS game. Sometimes, people would mention a list of people without voting for just one, which I indicate as "mention". An actual vote for a single candidate is "vote". I can see the problem <benjinathan> has in the GMYS game in that at times you have to try to read between the lines, so some of this is interpretation. But here goes: Deep Breath: vote - Themofro
weisyschwarz: vote - lonepsycho
TefthePersian: mention - Themofro, imag, isemeria; vote - isemeria Dionyseus: vote -Themofro Elixir of Life: vote - Themofro
benjinathan: vote - Themofro
zanshin: vote - Themofro
Boomie: vote - Themofro
AgentRgent: vote - benjinathan
Gypsy: vote - benjinathan
Tabanus: mention - imag, isemeria, lonepsycho, Themofro, Elixir of Life, whiteshark MarkThornton: mention - Elixir of Life, imag, isemeria, lonepsycho, Themofro |

 | | chesstoplay: Hi... just wanted to say thank you for voting for the scholarship award. Themofro as a 17 year old is a wonderful winner.
I hope that this is the kind of player that will go forward and create more chess for the next 5 decades or so!! Your friend in chess,

 | | granyid: I based morality on the standard of God not the standard of men. Abortion is against the law of God, but men make it moral. On American policy although i am an asian and have no interest on it., your government choices shape the world..either Bush or Clinton there dicision as Leaders affected us also. Anyway we are analyzing chess here and I thank God in this things God make us equal.. |

| Jul-10-07 | | Red October: <kwgurge> in the GMT game may I know your intended plan against the Ruy ? Is it the Worral Attack ? thanks |
 |
| Jul-10-07 | | Red October: actually that should be in the Ruy and not <against> the Ruy geez.. but I'm sure you get the question.. |
 |
| Jul-15-07 | | Red October: thanks <kwgurge> I was wondering if some of the positions in the Spanish led to sequences that was out of the engines horizon for the move suggestions to be certain, e.g. in <Atar1s> review of some of GMTs Spanish games.. |
 |
Jul-15-07
 | | kwgurge: <Red October> I think it depends on where you start the analysis. If we start at positions in the 12 to 20th move range and can run 25 to 30 ply deep analyses we shouldn't have any "horizon" issues different from any other opening. If we start trying to run deep analyses in the very early moves of a Ruy we could have this problem (though probably no different than in some Sicilian and other complex lines), but we don't need to start that early because of the well developed theory in the main lines. |

| Aug-24-07 | | Hugin: kwgurge: <Hugin> Please develop thicker skin and stay with us. Your talents and efforts will be needed to beat GMT. <Skylark> and <others> Please remember there are language issues and that the nuances of reading face to face communication are not available in internet postings. Hence the subleties of meaning and purpose can be easily misread or misinterpreted in this communication format. What you perceive may well not be what was intended. Let's get away from going after each other based on perceived slights and stick to commenting on chess. < Sorry man but the characther assasination of my person is forfilled, by some that has been after me from early on...Whatever
i might digg up later in the game, will have no influence whatsoever time for me to leave. 2-0 to Timmerman sofare without him even knowing. Thanks for the good spirit and insight you have showed in those games i've been a part of.> |

 | | capafan: <kwurge>I appreciate the support but do not be surprised if the <b4> idea is not blind-sided at the last moment. I have yet to see any analysis of the <b4> main variation from move 8. to move 12. [alternatives to black's e5 push] although I know some are working on it. As you stated, there is nothing to support any black line of play other than e5, which even Thorsson said was "de rigueur" (Malaniuk's idea in a fairly recent game, 2005); If you could, I would appreciate your taking the lead in analyzing any such non-e5 ideas when they do appear and letting me know your findings. Thanks :) BTW, I think we are close to tying up some loose ends on the start of the <b4> line (against 12....Rd8 <Tabanus> and 12....Qf7). <RV> has been having trouble with his computers and I have not been able to get a deeper line from him that we have not already generated, so I will skip this step. Therefore, we should be able to put together a good summary for the main forum relatively soon, in which I hope you will participate. |
