From Sevilla (Spain), born in fifties. Chemical analyst, working in a official Drinking Water Quality Control laboratory.

Eye-witness in some games of Kasparov-Karpov WCC Sevilla 1987. Being a pre-teenager, I also watched a couple of games of Petrosian-Huebner, Candidates 1971.

Active player in 80s, not anymore. It was too much for my nervous system.

I'm very interested in chess history. Favourite player is an ideal mix Capablanca-Nimzovich-Smyslov. Two logical and clear minds and, in the middle, some drops of Nimzo eccentricity.

Current Favorite Poem:

Lo más hermoso, aquello
que no puede comprarse,
que vale, frente a un copo de tu espuma,
si se sabe mirar,
frente a una pluma de tormenta, rota
sobre tu orilla, frente
a tus platas y azules,
metales y cristales,

pude hacernos llorar,
ensancha las fronteras
del alma, desmorona
los muros negros de la realidad.
Qué vale nada, todo,
lo que tú, playa mía,
lirio de arena, selva
de círculos de oro,
túnica ardiente, pálida campana,
palacio sumergido,
inolvidable...

José Hierro (1922-2002)

meloncio: Anda Barsa won La Liga, what a surprise! :) A joke about Pepe and his special relationship with Messi & Mourinho in Catalonian TV. It's based on a Brazilian song very popular around here (English subtitles), http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T7Ib...

meloncio: About the "mistery" of Golmayo - Alphonse XIII picture on Manuel Golmayo De La Torriente page. In short, <LoveThatJoker> is right. Definitely the man dressed as military uniform (left side, white pieces) is Manuel Golmayo, the other man is the king Alphonse XIII. ...

Feb-14-12  Nemesistic: Bulgaria in 94 too... Messi got another CL goal and assist as well tonight, genius total genius..
Feb-15-12  Jim Bartle: This video showing Lampard's shot was no goal is pretty funny:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EUjq...

Feb-15-12  Nemesistic: Lol.

Arsenal are getting steam rolled against Milan! Its 2 zip already!

Feb-19-12  Jim Bartle: I see Brighton Albion scored four goals to Liverpool's three, a real shock I assume. Unfortunately, three of Brighton's were into their own net, so the final score was 6-1.
Feb-20-12  azaris: <Brighton Albion> Hey, they're Gus Poyet's club. Unfortunately his defensive coaching doesn't seem to have improved any since he left Spurs.
Feb-20-12  Jim Bartle: The third own-goal (that's the term, right?) was probably the worst play by a defender I've ever seen.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sUMA...

Feb-20-12  NakoSonorense: Autogol.
Feb-20-12  Jim Bartle: Autogol en español, the British announcers usually say own-goal.
Feb-20-12  NakoSonorense: They also say, for example, "one nil" (1-0) or "two nil" (2-0). I like it better than "one oh" or "two oh" like some Americans say.
Feb-20-12  falso contacto: gol en contra por acá.
Feb-20-12  falso contacto: horrible, que se dedique a otra cosa.
Feb-21-12  azaris: <Dunk> Maybe he should've played basketball instead.

meloncio: <JimB><own-goal> Por aquí "Gol en propia meta". <fc> Spanish football journalists like to imitate Argentinian football terms: cancha, arquero, Clásico, taquito, penal, etc are new terms we can read everyday around here.
Feb-21-12  NakoSonorense: Having never heard the term about seven or eight years ago, I said "self-goal." Needless to say, I got some weird looks from the people I was playing with.

valiant: <selfgoal> That's what we call it in Scandinavia ... Top Ten Självmål/Selvmål http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tmXq...
Feb-22-12  azaris: In Liverpool they call them carraghers. I know this because whenever an own goal occurs it says "Carragher (OG)" on the scoresheet.
Feb-23-12  Nemesistic: Its been 'Own goal' and '1-0 (one nil) since us English invented football... We just sold the patent around 1950 lol when we had whats generally regarded as England's worst ever defeat (And as you can imagine thats up against some pretty stiff competition lol)... It was..... USA 1 ENGLAND NIL !! 1950

Some reporters at the time over here didn't believe we could lose 1-0, so went ahead and reported the game as an 11-nil result in our favour!!! Then came the Hungarians!! At least we won the WC a decade and a half later though :D..

Anyway, Ronaldo scored and could have had 5 in last nights CL game for Real.. I obviously am a Messi fan, but Ronny's getting so close.. If he wins 4 CL's scoring and assisting on Messi's level in every game then i'll put him above Maradona!!

But thats never gonna happen..

And i hope we get to play Portugal in the Euro's so Rooney can get Ronny sent off this time... I'll never forgive his cockey mission accomplished 'Wink' to the portugese bench as Rooney walked past him down the tunnel, and the next day newspaper headline...."YOU WINKER" ;)

Feb-23-12  Jim Bartle: I don't see Ronaldo making great passes to set up goals the way Messi has so often, but maybe I'm not paying attention.
Feb-23-12  Nemesistic: No, you're definately paying attention Jim, Ronaldo's a greedy player which must not make him popular with his team mates, but when you pull in €1 million A MONTH, i guess he'll get over it!

But you're correct.... Messi over Ronaldo anyday if i were a manager

Feb-23-12  Jim Bartle: Unfortunately, if I remember right, Scotland had somehow already lost to Peru and only tied Iran by the time of that great play against Holland.
Feb-23-12  Nemesistic: Will the scots ever quit it with that one goal by a balding, beer guzzling midget ;(.. Lol

Seriously though... REMEMBER 66?? " I still see that tackle by Moore, and when Lineker scored, Bobby belting the ballllll...and Nobby dancing, THREE LIONS ON OUR SHIRTS"! :)
