Improving at chess is my main purpose here. If I make a few friends along the way, thats a bonus

Face-to-Face chess, OTB, only being able to apply what you have learned; thats the essence of Chess

A real project requires foresight and commitment; the hardest parts are starting and finishing

"The position you see in the diagram is like an empty canvas standing on an easel. If you have any aptitude, talent or, no less important, desire, then boldly take up your brush and paints, decide upon the necessary color and embark upon your creative work. But how should one begin? I cannot say what feelings artists experience at that moment, but, whenever I have to start a game with an 'empty' chess board in front of me, I cannot stop thinking that today, right now, I have the very fortunate possibility of playing the most beautiful, the most fighting, and the most profound game since the time of my birth and since long before it" ~ David Bronstein

morfishine: I tell you <Patriot> my thought process is just pitiful. I had the winning move all decided on and then over-analyzed the position and switched rooks. Instead of 19.Rde1, 19.Rhe1 wins on the spot. I knew intuitively that was the move but switched at the last minute. I'm ...

Jun-14-12  Limpin Kt: Post script- i have posted the game in sevenseaman's forum- its very difficult to type all the notations in my mobile device again, sorry for the inconvenience. Good evening.

morfishine: <Limpin Kt> I like the wide-open nature of your play. Get all the pieces out and let them roam around: something I've not been doing lately!

(1) Perhaps <6...d6> to get your last piece out;

(2) <14...Bh2?> just opens up lines to your king; I like <14...f5> just shoving those pawns straight at the king; or <14...Bf5> developing the last piece

(3) OF course white missed 25.Qg3+

(4) But you finished nicely with your Queen check followed by the pin, ending up a rook ahead...thats the point

But hey, this is what chess is all about, and most important, look over the game and try to recall what you were thinking at each move. This recall is very important to improvement; and write down what you were thinking: thats criticical; By identifying your mistakes this way (manually writing your thoughts down of the move that was weak) you avoid them in the future

Thanks for asking me to look at your game! Thats one thing about chess I believe: Players shouldn't be hesitant about wanting to show their games

morfishine: <AJ> You are glossing over the point I've made. I never defended him <MF> or what he posted. In fact I defended you, while at the same time I explained to him your posting was a complete coincidence.

Either clear this up or I will know exactly where we stand.

I will not be misrepresented by anybody

Jun-14-12  Limpin Kt: I'm grateful for your comments! :) of course i was refering Qg3! which white missed- its mate in two! :) gm

The footballs on tonight Morf, England are playing!

The Swedes had the cheek to project a huge picture of their star striker, Ibrahimovic, on to Big Ben last night!!!!!

It didn't stay up for long lol

I'll guess with my heart and my head at 2-1 to England :)

brankat: A couple of nice, and dangerous, shots by the Swedes late in the first half. It is not going to be easy.
Jun-15-12  MarkFinan: Branks.... We have one of the top 3 keepers In the world, have faith my friend :)

half time.... Expect Young and Wellbeck to be subbed at some point!

Patriot: Hi <morf>! I showed the last position we talked about, to Dan. He said since the pawn is defended twice, black can just do nothing since there is no threat. If it was defended only once it may be different.

I gave him yesterday's puzzle and he solved it fast. When I mentioned that he said "That's because I looked wide before I looked deep." This is something to always keep in mind.

He later said something that really stuck with me. "Weaker players look at a move and say it doesn't work. Strong players look at a move and try to prove it doesn't work." I thought it was a very interesting observation. And it's another thing to keep in mind!

brankat: <morfishine> TV sports channels available to You are not telecasting Euro soccer event? Or, perhaps, Your schedule(s) prevents You from watching the games?

Btw, England-Sweden was quite a dramatic encounter. England did win, deservedly I'd say, but it could have easily been the other way around. Exactly the kind of a game most enjoyable to watch.

Jun-16-12  MarkFinan: Morning Morf :)

Game#1 <25...Qc6>

Game#2 <18...e5>

Game#3 <17.Qd3>

Well we won last night, but typical England! Did it the hard way.. At least Rooney's back from suspension for the next match :)

But It does look likely we'll be meeting Spain In the quarter finals, which means..... Big trouble!

morfishine: Hello <brankat>! Thanks for the follow up. The main problem is during the week, I don't get home in time from work. But the crippling problem is I am unable to record due to an interface problem between the VHS and the DVR. My daughters tapes are in VHS format and the only way it works is to have it and the DVR connected; but this prevents both the DVR and VHS from recording. If I disconnect the DVR, I can record VHS and if I disconnect VHS, I can record DVR. But thats too much of a hassle, especially when she wants to watch a show. But UR right: I could disconnect, record, watch, reconnect, she gets to watch, disconnect, record, watch, etc...but thats a bit maddening

Ok, you can stop laughing now. The service tech said I can either get an upgraded VHS or ditch VHS and go just with DVR. I'll do that when she outgrows her shows

On the weekend, for the EC, things improve considerably for me: I'm looking at the paper as I type this and see for Saturday 2-games: Greece vs Russia and Czech vs Poland both at 230pm and for Sunday Portugal vs Netherlands and Denmark vs Germany, same time. Monday there are two games at 230 but I won't get home in time from work

For now, during the week, I'll have to be satisfied with going on the net and seeing the scores/highlights. :)

Jun-16-12  MarkFinan: Branko.... I never said we should sub Welbeck Immediately ;)..

And If I were England manager we'd have beaten the French, what a bore that game was!

BTW Morf, hope you're enjoying the golf mate, I know nothing about the game though! I know we've got some good British players though??

Jun-16-12

morfishine: <MarkFinan> Yep, this weekend, there's lots of soccer and golf to watch. There's plenty of Great British players: Luke Donald, Lee Westwood and Justin Rose to name a few. Colin Montgomery is semi-retired, but he was great.

I left a longer message in your forum plus I copied the moves of our games:

Game 1: <26.Qe2>

Game 2: <19.Bg2>

Game 3: <17...b6>

Jun-16-12  MarkFinan: Game#1 <26...Rd6>

Game#2 <19....Nb4?>

Game#3 <18.Rd1>

just going over these games this morning has made me feel tired again.. I feel like going back to bed! All 3 games Im going over and over till I feel shattered.. Don't know how these top players do It at such short time controls, I'm dreading playing my next 15 minute game, and thank god I don't really play blitz unless Iv'e had a few lol

sevenseaman: The Wellbeck back heel!! England will qualify now.
Jun-16-12

Patriot: Hi <morf>! "Look wide before you look deep", to me is a directive on analyzing. It's another way of saying "Don't get too wrapped up in lengthy variations at the beginning. First look around and see if anything stands out."

"Weak players look at a move and say it doesn't work. Strong players look at a move and try to prove it doesn't work." That seems to have a psychological effect, to get a player not to make quiescence errors. Instead of saying "Oh that just loses the queen", you may be more apt to say "I lose the queen but can follow that up with a mate threat" for example.

<...The problem is, its my moves I'm looking at! :)> LOL, but that's a good thing...right? You have to consider your own move and your opponent's likely replies.

Jun-17-12  MarkFinan: Game#1 <27...Qc4>

Game#2 <20...Ba6>

Game#3 <19.Rh3>

(I really hope Iv'e got those right!)

Hi Morf... Iv'e posted 3 moves but you take your time and just post moves on whatever game you like, whenever you're ready mate..

I'll get back to all your football questions and sport In my forum, except to say..... Greece!!!! Poorest team here, apart from Ireland, how the hell they squeezed through ahead of a team that thrashed them 4-0 I'll never know!!

<SS> Welbecks goal was a playstation goal.. Sheer English brilliance ;)
