Punjab, India. Amateur interest, no rating. Anand, Alekhine and Tal are my favorite masters. A year on I add Garry Kasparov and Magnus Carlsen. After seeing his performance in this year's Tata Steel, specifically his game against Giri, I have the pleasure of adding Aronian.

  morfishine: Morning <sevenseaman>! Lets see if I can't work thru a couple of these:

sol <51221> The ole one-two: <1...Qxf2+ 2.Kh1 Rf3> 3...Rxh3# is threatened. The only way to prevent this is 3.Bxf3, but this allows 3...Qxc2 winning the White Queen

sol <72952> Wow, now if this isn't pretty, I don't know what is:

<1...Qxe3+ 2.Kf1 Rh1+ 3.Bxh1 Bh3+ 4.Bg2 Qf3+ 5.Kg1 Qxg2#>

Its magical combinations like this that give my day a boost, energize the soul and add a spring to my step!

  sevenseaman: Hi <morf>. Morning. A scintillating game. (Putting it in a diagram was a bit of a hassle).

I think first 12 moves are normal service. Then I was very happy to see 13. Nd2. My margin annotations are;

<13. Nd2! 16. Qh4! 18. Bf4! 19. Rac1! 30. Rxe6!! 32. Ng5!! 33...Qd7? 34. Nxh7+, 36. Re7+ to the end are dream moves>.

30. Rxe6 is the kind of move I would be proud to make, and 3. Ng5 smells blood and White goes for the kill.

33....Qd7 is questionable, it gives away a game that was already atotter.

36. Rxe7+ is a GM move.

I feel it is too much for a 7 year old. Mysterious! There must have been a hidden power (ESP) behind this kind of feat.

Thanks.

  sevenseaman: <LK> you have grasped the essence and are absolutely right in your assessment. This is how it went;

1. Nb4 Bh3 2. Nxa2

( 1. Nb4 O-O 2. Nxa2 Ne6 3. Qe3 c5 4. Nac3 Re8 5. f4 Nd4 6. Na3 Bf5 7. Bb5 Re7 8. O-O Rd8 )

Try #70771.

  morfishine: Morning <sevenseaman> Glad you liked that win from the youngster! On your comment <...Putting it in a diagram was a bit of a hassle...> My bad :(

Turns out, it would've been as simple as ever. I THOUGHT it would've been a real hassle as I was copying it from the USCF website and THOUGHT I would have to play through the game again to get to the final position. Of course, that wouldn't have been necessary since all I had to do was fast-forward to the final position via PGN and presto....perhaps I was temporarily hypnotized by the game itself and couldn't think straight...yes, thats a convenient excuse

NOT!!! :)

  sevenseaman: Just how do you convert a score into a playable game. (is it called PGN)All along I have been using the starting position of other games conveniently handy. Today I used the starting grid of the POTD. I feel that is a bit laborious. Looking for the needle you carry the haystack.

  morfishine: Good morning <sevenseaman>! In answer to your question <Just how do you convert a score into a playable game> If I understand your question correctly, one must have a program (with an empty template) that the moves are loaded into.

What I was referring to was I could've simply 'clicked-on' the last position move and then copied the position using FEN. For some reason I was thinking I had to work thru the game move-by-move to get to the last position. I must've been having a very slow morning! :)

You are familiar with how we can 'click' any move of a game at <CG> and we arrive at that position. Same thing with the games at USCF, its just the format is different. I copied the article with the game for you (3rd game from the top) so you can see: http://main.uschess.org/content/vie...
