 | | Check It Out: <Benzol>
I don't know if this is the answer to your question, but Top Topham was the original Yardbirds lead guitarist. To continue our test questions, what song featured Keith Moon, Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page, and John Paul Jones? |
Aug-11-12
 | | Benzol: <Check It Out> Top marks ( ouch ). :) Anthony "Top" Topham was indeed their first lead guitarist. Don't know what happened to him though. I'll let others cogitate on your next test question for the moment. |

 | | talisman: how bout dem Orioles!!!!! loved the "Buck Showalter for President signs. 2 of the best sports stories are the O's and A's this year. Oakland is pulling off a year that's better than their Moneyball year. Hope the O's win the East so they don't have to meet in the wild card. |
| Oct-06-12 | | A.G. Argent: Congrats coach on the Birds, post-season play has been a long time coming, hasn't it. Since what, '97? Bring on the Yanks. And the Amazing A's? Pretty damned cool. |
Oct-15-12
 | | talisman: <A.G.Argent> sorry i missed your post...really enjoyed the season for the O's. |

 | | WannaBe: <talisman> Be very neat, if Ryan Theriot wins another ring with SF, a year after he won with St.L |
| Oct-28-12 | | Jim Bartle: Be even neater if he scored the winning run. |
Oct-29-12
 | | talisman: <WannaBE> <Jim Bartle> Thanks guys! Ryan can now say he scored the winning run in the College World Series and the MLB World Series. Good night for my family. Thanks again guys. |

 | | WannaBe: Re: Ryan Theriot, some people just 'know' when to be in the 'right place'. =) Can't script that, Hollywood would deem it too ridiculous to happen. |
Nov-28-12
 | | talisman: <WannaBe> camera always seems to find him.K-bitz 5100 was going to go #51 Dick Butkus. But i see where Marvin Miller died. as a kid i was not a fan of free agency. i missed not having all the lineups memorized because players stayed put. However salaries were a joke. Players had jobs in the off-season. Jim Bunning refereed basketball games...Kaline was a teamster etc...Miller said it best when asked about his contribution..."Once it was a plantation. It is not a plantation now." |

| Feb-23-13 | | NGambit: Any good chess club I could join in Austin? |
Feb-23-13
 | | talisman: <NGambit> The Austin Chess Club meets every Sunday night at 6:00 pm. Supposed to have a very friendly atmosphere from what I hear. Haven't had a chance to check it out yet. They have a website also with some good information. Thanks. |
| Feb-23-13 | | NGambit: Thanks for the info <talisman>. Had checked their site but wanted to get a second opinion. |
Feb-23-13
 | | chancho: I had no idea you coached players in America's favorite past time. Cool. |
Feb-23-13
 | | talisman: <chancho> yea enjoyed for 32 yrs. and miss it. enjoying coaching my 14 yr. old in little league up up here in NW Austin(Dripping Springs). really cool little town. Hoping Ryan signs but his 4 offers all want him to be a backup. This guy is 34 and has his money made, 3 small kids and wants another, and has never sat on the bench in his life. He may just retire and do what he wants to do next. |
Mar-29-13
 | | Joshka: Hey, hello, big baseball fan here as well.....who are some of the best baseball chess players that you know of? Travis Hafner formerly of the Indians was pretty good I have heard, And also retired slugger Albert "Mr. Freeze" Belle. Born and raised an Indians fan all my life, mostly, except for a few years I lived in Boston;-) |
Mar-29-13
 | | Joshka: They say Capablanca was a good ball player in college. |
Mar-30-13
 | | talisman: <Joshka> thanks for the post. Finally Opening Day! coming soon. Albert Belle was on one of the first L.S.U. teams of Skip Bertman. Bertman had some great teams. I always like Albert, got a lot of bad press but...
Capablanca...now the librarian at Broadmoor was Cuban. She told me her dad or grandad would play chess with him. kinda neat.
Talked to Ryan yesterday. He's ready to stay home and be a full time dad. Sitting the bench not for him. 3 small children and wants another. We would go see him whenever his team would play the Astros, he would get my family out on the field for BP and that was a thrill for my boy every year. Last time was w/ the Cardinals and got a ball signed by that world championship team. Well tomorrow chess and then baseball! gonna be a good day! |
