 | | shivasuri4: <chessgames.com: Not only do we have a Bazna King's Tournament (2011) discussion forum but we'll be covering the games live starting tomorrow. We will use our tried and true method of covering the top board, but at the same time we know that Magnus hasn't played in months, so we have every intention of shamelessly bending the rules in Carlsen's favor if necessary. :)> Does this last statement annoy you,<tpstar>? |

Jun-11-11
 | | tpstar: <shivasuri4> Carlsen has always been a fan favorite, thanks to his relentless fighting spirit and incredibly successful results. A few years ago, some Russian kibitzers complained about live event favoritism toward Western players over comrades like Svidler and Morozevich, but they aren't around much anymore. I will definitely be annoyed if the Carlsen Fanboys start shamelessly bending the Posting Guidelines. =) |

 | | shivasuri4: <Carlsen has always been a fan favorite, thanks to his relentless fighting spirit and incredibly successful results.> I don't deny that at all.I asked you the question because this is an American site and Nakamura would be more favoured to get that 'honour'.So it was a surprise 'hearing' the admins say that. |
 |
Jun-12-11
 | | tpstar: <this is an American site> If you think this place is an outlet for pro-American rhetoric, then you haven't read the kibitzing over the last seven years. :P There are times when live events are put up to a vote for which game to cover, and then popular players like Carlsen and Nakamura dominate the voting, but otherwise they follow Board 1 to be consistent. |

You are right.I have been here since January 1st 2008 only.I don't usually visit the Rogoff page either. It turns out that Carlsen got the first live game coverage every game since he's been leading from the start,at worst being the joint leader. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <The old guard is staying out of this> I noticed this. I like your turn of phrase here, appropriate for a website devoted to a war game. Any truth to the rumor that you, <Honza>, <Resignation Trap>, <Tamar>, <Keypusher>, <Karpova>, <Offramp>, and many others are all veterans of the 101st US Airborne who served at Bastogne during the Battle of the Bulge? I'm not sure who is spreading this rumor, but I suspect both <hms123> and <crawfb5>. I have no proof however.
I saw all you guys in "Band of Brothers" a great, great series if you haven't seen it. |
 |
Jun-17-11
 | | Benzol: This site might be based in America but its flavour is definitely international. There is a great deal of light and shade from across the globe which is good to see even if sometimes we may not see eye to eye exactly. Gens Una Sumus. BTW I don't think I've ever seen <Honza> embroiled in an argument with anyone. He commands too much respect for that. :) |
 |
Jun-17-11
 | | Open Defence: Hi Tony you are a doctor right ? may i know which specialization? |
 |
Jun-17-11
 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Benzol> there are tons of members, old and new, who never get involved in arguments. You David and Peter for three. Also <Malthrope> springs to mind immediately. I wish he'd come back- he was spotted a month or so ago on Twitter, so I'm assuming he is OK at the moment. Of latter day saints, <crawfb5> has never gotten into an argument either. In fact, he has not once expressed even the mildest annoyance. This is testament to a man who, regarding the US Civil War, posted "It's not over till *I* say it's over." |
 |
Jun-17-11
 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Deffi> I may be remembering this wrong, but I believe <hms123> said Tony was a "Doctor of Love." I assume this is similar to the degree Richard Simmons has- Simmons has often said he has a "Phd in caring." |
 |

 | | Benzol: <Jess> If you thought that some posters didn't get up my nose in the past then you should have a look at User: Marnoff Mirlony A guy that was out there on his own to put it mildly. |

 | | suenteus po 147: <jessicafischerqueen> I used to get embroiled in arguments on the Kramnik page back in the day when that was the thing to do here. It's bemusing the size of the tumbleweeds that roll through the player page these days. It's a bit sobering to know that both the superfans and the superhaters moved on to other pastures. I try to stay out of things these days and focus on the work I can do for the site. |
 |
Jun-17-11
 | | Benzol: <Marnoff> use to refer to <sleepkid>, <ughaibu> and <Benjamin Lau> a three ring circus because they disagreed with him about Fischer. They didn't always agree with each other, just about their opinions on what <Marnoff> thought. Other controversial characters from the past include <Steppenwolf>, <GMshirtlessrocketman>, <Slothrop>, and <Ferocious Beast>. |
 |
Jun-17-11
 | | jessicafischerqueen: Thanks for the history you guys- the only one I knew about was <FB>, because he has made relatively recent appearances. I thought <FB> was never angry, his persona was just a total put on? I found him hilarious actually. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: Interesting, that <Bader-Mernoff Milorny Gang> fellow made a brief "comeback" in Ought Nine eh? He reckoned he was missed. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: Do you think <Slothrop> may have been trying to pass himself off as the child of <slomarko> and <malthrope>? YOU BE THE JUDGE |
 |
Jun-17-11
 | | Benzol: Actually <Furby> was hilarious. His persona was very over the top. I don't remember him being nasty or anything like that but his character did cause controversy. |

 | | Benzol: < Do you think <Slothrop> may have been trying to pass himself off as the child of <slomarko> and <malthrope>?

If <Slothrop> was their child it's a good lesson on the evils of internet breeding. :) I don't miss him and I think I'd rather let <Marnoff> remain in the past. |
