 | | jessicafischerqueen: Hello <Bill>= a few points: 1. Thanks for posting the two draws against Rybka and Stockfish over at <chess.com>= and congratulations to you and the humans. 2. Thanks for posting the link to your updated Fischer biography, which is now in my profile. 3. Regarding these photos of Bobby, which we were discussing over at chess.com- http://www.echecs-photos.be/BobbyFi... http://www.echecs-photos.be/BobbyFi... http://www.echecs-photos.be/BobbyFi... According to User: TheFocus, none of them is actually Bobby Fischer. The source is <Carmine Nigro's> son, and here is a re-post from <TheFocus>: <Jan-13-11
<<<TheFocus:>>> In regard to the picture that you asked me about, Carmine Nigro's son Bill e-mailed me that this is not Carmine Nigro and the boy in the pictures is not Bobby Fischer.
I have a few pictures of Bobby from 1956 and the boy in these pictures does not really resemble Bobby at all. Here, from Edward Winter's Chess Notes are two pictures of Bobby Fischer from 1953, his earliest known pictures. The source is David DeLucia's <Bobby Fischer Uncensored>. http://www.chesshistory.com/winter/...; Of course as you know, now we have even earlier photos of Bobby thanks to <Frank Brady's> "Endgame." Best regards,

 | | Open Defence: Happy Easter!!!
interesting that there are people doubting our second draw as well hehehehehehe! |

 | | Open Defence: I found that post hilarious, since its those same engines that are helping us find improvements in our post game analysis... another thing they fail to understand is that when an engine plays without an opening book it uses up time in analyzing opening moves even simple responses and recaptures that it would otherwise play instantly in a fraction of a second with its opening book enabled. This eats into the time available for analysis in the middle game which prevents it from reaching high depths and so in a sense this is handicapping the engine further.. its funny that some of the public sees these games as a claim that we are somehow superior or equal to the engines in chess i make no such claim whatsoever of course, i do think however that these games are testimony to a high degree of skill in terms of positional understanding, team work, and tactical calculation on the part of the human team though they are a testimony to a very conservative approach as well |

 | | OhioChessFan: <I dont think the average chess fan understands how much of a handicap no Opening books and no Tablebases are to an engine> I look at it the other way. I think that in terms of fair competition, the Opening books and Tablebases are the only things that let the engines compete with the best GM's. I continue to be amazed that so many chess players don't realize that. <when an engine plays without an opening book it uses up time in analyzing opening moves even simple responses and recaptures that it would otherwise play instantly in a fraction of a second with its opening book enabled. This eats into the time available for analysis in the middle game which prevents it from reaching high depths and so in a sense this is handicapping the engine further..> And again, another advantage of the Opening books. I share your surprise people don't understand this. |

 |
| Oct-11-12 | | erniecohen: Hi Bill,
I was surprised to see that you apparently lost two 14-move correspondence games, each as White, to Cliff Aker (in 1981 and 1989). Is there a story behind these games? |
 |
Oct-22-12
 | | wwall: I played Cliff Aker 23 times in postal play from 1981 to 1989, winning 9, drawing 9, and losing 5. Apparently I was experimenting too much with some openings, they backfired and I lost. Aker was a strong postal player. |
