MissScarlett: Naka has been arrested by the microbe police.
Dec-30-21  Messiah: What a colossal crapshow this tourney became after the FIDE failed to take responsible actions on the COVID-19 pandemic, I can't believe.

MissScarlett: What actions do you have in mind?
Dec-30-21  Messiah: <MissScarlett: What actions do you have in mind?>

For example, not organizing an event (I mean: an indoor gathering) that has the very real potential to turn to be a superspreader event.

MissScarlett: An outdoor event in Poland at this time of year could be very uncomfortable. Personally, I think the quicker everyone gets Covid the better.
Dec-30-21  beenthere240: Magnus did not do very well today. Probably still grumpy about the tiebreaks.

  MissScarlett: Duda scored: +14 -5 =2. MVL: +12 -3 =6.
Dec-30-21  fisayo123: <beenthere240> Always one excuse after the other after a bad result with you lot.

MissScarlett: Dubov let down Russia again.
Dec-30-21  beenthere240: <fisayo123>
Not so much an excuse as a joke. Carlsen's griping about the Rapid tiebreaks is funny because he had every opportunity to read the rules and protest -- in advance. His performance today was just more irony.
Dec-31-21  Messiah: Why aren't Justin's failures uploaded yet?

dernier loup de T: That not even ONE game of Carlsen is in the collection of fisayo123's favorite games , but several of Firouzja's, being obviously a pure coincidence, and for sure, fisayo123 would have mentioned "always (bad, of course) excuses", about Firouzja in the same way, if HE would have been "grumpy": no doubt allowed: all that is pure objectivity, without any hate at all.
Dec-31-21  fisayo123: <dernier loup de T> I don't know what collection you're looking at as I have quite a lot.

And you're totally incorrect. I do have several games from Carlsen in my collections , like this one for example:

Carlsen vs Grischuk, 2009

Dec-31-21  Albertan: Here is a report from Chessbase concerning the Men’s and Women’s World Blitz Chess Championships:

Dec-31-21  tessathedog: I was curious after seeing video footage on chess24 of Petrosian’s final round game (drawn) in the world blitz. The game had ended. The camera had been focused on something else, but picked up Petrosian’s reaction at the end of the game. He looked…broken. He sat at the board with his two hands covering his eyes, head bowed, for at least 30 seconds, prompting Jan Gustaffson to ask “what’s happened to Tigran…is he crying?”. A reference was made to the large prizes on offer. I think we all assumed he had lost. Playing over the game just now (a great struggle) Petrosian doesn’t seem to blunder or anything…indeed, he seems to do well to save a complex ending a pawn down. So I guess his reaction was just a mixture of relief, exhaustion, and a reflection of the enormous pressure and tension of the game and day. It seemed a very human moment.

dernier loup de T: <fisayo123> I had in mind your list of FAVORITE games (part II), but I recognize you collected only 7 games in this list, so it really could very well be a coïncidence that there is no Carlsen game inside; just see my kibitzing as a little teasing, and please consider too I'm a fan of Magnus; so: just sorry, because of course I will never deny it's fully your right to prefer Firouzja's style! I'm a frenchman, but nationalism was always out of question for me, specially in chess but in general also.

By the way: strange pace of play for "rapid" games in a World Championship; it seems to be more like almost blitz games already: only 15 minutes for each player!! maybe 25 to even 30 minutes per player would allow a better quality of the games, but after all, I'm not at all a specialist of these matters, and the organizers have to considers other factors too. The "worst: I always had the feeling that in competitions of rapid games, double robin would be more fair also... But of course, all that stuff would be topic for another debate...

I don't understand.. how so? He finished 11 way tie for 3rd only 1.5 pts below the champion. In a field of some 250? players only 5 outperformed him in this event.

Check It Out: <PawnSac> MS was being ironic; Karjakin threw shade at Dubov for backing Carlsen in the WCC.

MissScarlett: There are only 19 Dubov games, instead of 21. The Nakamura forfeit accounts for one - was there another?
Jan-03-22  TheBirdman33: <MissScarlet> The Nakamura forfeit was already accounted for in the <21> total of games played, meaning the difference of two must have another reason, perhaps an upload bug, I don't know.

MissScarlett: But there are only 19 games totalling 13.5 points: World Blitz (2021)/Daniil Dubov

whereas he scored 14.5/21. I have discovered that Dubov himself forefited his first round game with Piorun, but I don't know why.
