GCT Saint Louis Rapid & Blitz (2021)

The Saint Louis Rapid & Blitz was the fourth of five events of the $1,275,000 Grand Chess Tour 2021. It took place in Saint Louis, Missouri, USA, 11-15 August. Four tour regulars, Caruana, Rapport, So and Mamedyarov were joined by wild cards Nakamura, Le Quang Liem, Shankland, Dominguez, Svidler and Xiong. The Rapid part was a 10-player round robin and featured three rounds each day on the first three days, with a time control of 25 minutes for all moves and 10 seconds added per move from move 1. The last two days were a 10-player Blitz double round robin with 18 rounds of 5 minutes + 2-second delay. Rapid games counted double, with 2 points for a win and 1 for a draw. Games began each day at 3 pm local time. Chief organizer: Tony Rich. Chief arbiter: Christopher Bird. Number of games played: 45 Rapid + 90 Blitz = 135.

Hikaru Nakamura won undefeated with 24/36. Caruana earned 10 Grand Chess Tour points (GP):
