Jul-30-15 | | Pulo y Gata: And Morozevich was quite more successful during his heyday. |
Jul-30-15 | | Imran Iskandar: Wojtaszek looks like he is winning. MVL is better according to the engines, but he needs to convert the advantage to tie for first if Wojtaszek wins. |
Jul-30-15 | | Imran Iskandar: Quite a high percentage of the moves made by Wojtaszek in the middlegame was the Chess24 computer's first choice, it should be mentioned. |
Jul-30-15 | | parmetd: No Everett, the combined score of the minus must equal the combined score of the minus. It is not required for one player to be the punching bag for the whole tournament. That is the odd part. |
Jul-30-15
 | | Penguincw: MVL beats Rapport, who loses his 5th straight.
Pressure on Wojtaszek to win his winning position against David Navara (looks complicated though). Remember, the hardest thing to do in chess is win a winning position (3.32 is winning, right?). |
Jul-30-15 | | Imran Iskandar: Radek, what have you done?! |
Jul-30-15
 | | Penguincw: Wojtaszek-Navara is drawn, and MVL takes the tournament. To do so, he had to win 3 straight games. Entering R8, he trailed Wojtaszek by a full point, and Adams+Navara by half a point, but he comes out on top by half a point. |

Each to his own,but I have always found it harder to win a lost position :) |

Jul-30-15 | | fisayo123: Congrats to Maxime on winning Biel for a record 4th (?) time! Happy for him. As for Rapport. What an awful performance and what a waste of an invite by the organizers. There are a lot of hungry players out there that will love the opportunity to play here. His display here just gives off the feeling of a player that couldn't be bothered and wasn't taking it seriously. 2/10 is simply unacceptable. |
Jul-30-15 | | greed and death: Why Radek, whyyyy???? ;_; |
Jul-30-15 | | Atking: Congratulations to Maxime! |
Jul-30-15 | | 1850Patzer: Computers had Rado at +8 on chessbomb, but he still managed to screw it up. Would he have won on tiebreaks if he won that game?
Still a good performance by him in this tournament. |
Jul-30-15 | | Imran Iskandar: <fisayo123> In total agreement. The organizers would have been better off inviting Morozevich, for example, who has been largely inactive. Morozevich also has some history with Biel. Rapport was just pathetic in this tournament in every phase of the game. In other news, MVL has shot up 10 places to become No. 16 in the live ratings list! Hope this heralds his comeback to the top 10. |

Jul-30-15
 | | plang: Somebody always finishes last - and someone always criticizes that the person who finished last was invited. Rapport played well the first half of the tournament - not the first player to finish a tournament poorly - often difficult to stop negative momentum once it starts - he's only 19 |

 | | Penguincw: < In other news, MVL has shot up 10 places to become No. 16 in the live ratings list! Hope this heralds his comeback to the top 10. > I swear, is it me, or for the first 7 months of the year, it's been the same 10 players in the top 10? However, Ding Liren overtook Aronian, so perhaps change is coming?!? |
Jul-30-15
 | | Penguincw: Hold your thoughts guys, the eval now is in favour of Adams. |
Jul-30-15 | | kellmano: I followed the first half of the tournament fairly closely and thoroughly enjoyed his play. He was unlucky to be winless. I see he has collapsed, but that does tend to be a feature of this kind of player, Moro was certainly prone to it. |
Jul-30-15 | | Ulhumbrus: < Kain3: ... but people tend to forget that Rapport is still only 19 years old...> Perhaps we will see a Richard Reti of the twenty-first century in the years to come. |
Jul-30-15 | | 1850Patzer: Aronian falling out of top 10?
Not surprised.
Maybe now Ding will get more than one super tournament a year. |
Jul-30-15 | | kia0708: How did Wojtaszek manage no to win ? |
Jul-30-15 | | Illogic: That's strange, nobody was saying Rapport was a bad invite before the tournament. Hindsight rules again at CG.com |
Jul-30-15 | | AsosLight: I believe Rapport's best days are already in the past! |
Jul-30-15 | | parmetd: To be clear, I was not criticizing Rapport. |
Jul-31-15 | | Everett: <parmetd: No Everett, the combined score of the minus must equal the combined score of the minus. It is not required for one player to be the punching bag for the whole tournament. That is the odd part.> I mistyped the last part of my original post, which should read <The score of one is always the <reverse> score of everyone else combined.> This is true, meaning if one finishes +4, the rest will finish a combined -4. MVL above finished +3, and the rest of the field combined finished +13 -16 = -3 This has nothing to do with someone being the punching bag or not. |
Aug-01-15 | | Wavy: Rapport became the ELO giver here. That's nice of him to share ELO points to everybody. For someone so young to reach the 2700 level, he is not even in the top 100 now. He can still go up again since he is still young. Hopefully. |
