Reykjavik Open (2000) |
The 19th Reykjavik Open was held in the City Hall of Reykjavik, Iceland, 5-13 April 2000. A 76-player 9-round Swiss tournament, it was organized by the Icelandic Chess Federation and the Reykjavik Chess Club. Time control: 120 minutes for the first 40 moves, followed by 60 more minutes for the next 20 moves, and 30 more minutes to the end of the game. Rounds 1, 2, 3, 6, 7 and 8 started at 5 pm, rounds 4, 5 and 9 at 2 pm. Prize fund: 15,000 USD. First prize 5,000 USD, 2nd prize 3,000 USD, 3rd price 2,000 USD. Number of games played: 338. The event was preceded by the Chess@Iceland rapid tournament (1-2 April) with the participation of Garry Kasparov and Viswanathan Anand, and other GMs. Hannes Hlifar Stefansson won with an impressive 7.5/9.
