Russian Championship Higher League (2021)

The 74th Russian Championship Higher League tournament was a 54-player 9-round Swiss held in the "Ice Palace" arena in Cheboksary, Russia, from 26 June to 5 July 2021. Rest day: 1 July. The top five players would qualify for the Russian Championship Superfinal. Time control: 90 minutes for the first 40 moves, then 30 more minutes till the end of the game, with 30 seconds added per move from move 1. The overall prize fund was 5 million rubles, or around 70,000 euros. Games started at 3 pm. Tournament director: Alexander Tkachev. Chief arbiter: Vladimir Makhnev. Number of games played: 242.

Pavel Ponkratov won with 7/9, ahead of Chigaev (2nd on tiebreak) and Goryachkina (3rd). Goryachkina became the first woman ever to qualify for the Superfinal. Rakhmanov and Motylev also qualified for the Russian Championship Superfinal (2021).
