Russian Championship (Women) (2002)

The 52nd Russian Women's Championship tournament was a 34-player 9-round Swiss held at the Chess Palace in Elista, Russia, 11-19 May 2002. The event served as a qualification for representing Russia at the Bled Olympiad (Women) (2002). Time control: 90 minutes for the whole game, with 30 seconds added per move from move 1. Ekaterina Korbut did not arrive and was replaced by Kharashkina, and the 1st round game between Strutinskaya and Iljushina (a draw) was postponed to later in the evening. Rounds started at 4 pm (Round 9 at 1 pm). Prize fund: 200.000 Russian rubles. Chief arbiter: Arkady Vasiliev. Number of games played: 153.

Tatiana Kosintseva won with 7/9, ahead of Matveeva (2nd on tiebreak) and Atalik (Polovnikova) (3rd).
