Prizes: £8 to the winner and £2 to the loser. "...and of the match werein the juvenile amateur, Deacon, has been pitted against the well-known divan player, Löwe, the former has already contrived the score 3 games to his adversary's 1."(1)
"In the contest between Messrs. Deacon and Lowe, the former has gained four games, the latter two, and one game has been drawn."(2)
"The Chess Tournament—The Match between Mr Deacon and Mr Löwe has terminated in the triumph of the former; their final score giving to Deacon, 7 games; Löwe, 2 games; Drawn, 1 game."(3)
Notes
This was one of the "set matches" arranged by the London (1851) Committee.
"This match was for a prize of less amount than those of the others, being intended as one of a series to be got up, if circumstances permitted, for the encouragement of young and subordinate players."(5)
