 | | MissScarlett: <Svidler took domination of the screen and somehow treated Howell like an apprentice.> Hard not to do - Howell's persona is a cross between Rishi Sunak and Clark Kent. |
|
Jan-30-23
 | | perfidious: No Kasparov or Karpov to gum up the works in the '85 version--left things open to the rest of the elite. |

Jan-30-23
 | | Teyss: <Willem Wallekers> Of course, forgot to mention it. Giri was second after TB BTW. What I meant is before recently the last Dutch winner was 36 years ago. Oprechte excuses. |

 | | Willem Wallekers: <Teyss>
Excuses aanvaard.
No hard feelings. |
|
Jan-30-23 | | Chessius the Messius: Fabi gave Magnus a break, then Rapport gave Giri a break. Cuts both ways. What overkill does to people. |
|
Jan-30-23 | | Atterdag: <MissScarlett: ... Hard not to do - Howell's persona is a cross between Rishi Sunak and Clark Kent.> And this tells a lot about you. |

From the <SCID> xtab using TWIC pgn. Shame <CG> doesn't do verbatim formatting so that we can just simply copy aligned text tables over. . |

 | | boz: Personally, I quite like GM Howell. A gentleman and underrated player. It's natural for him to give the lead to Svidler who has more experience and that wonderful ability to see all the patterns so quickly. And my beef with Svidler has nothing to do with the man who seems to be a outstanding person. He is brilliant, humane, cultured and entertaining. I just wish he'd get a pulse and be a little less blasé about the games he is commenting on. |
|
Jan-30-23
 | | MissScarlett: He was animated whenever his dog was on screen. Did anyone hear him say anything about living in Israel? |
|
Jan-30-23
 | | boz: I thought Svidler lived in St. Petersburgh. I mean, they named the town after him, didn't they? |
|
Jan-30-23 | | Refused: He still is afaik.
There were some rumors about him having moved to Israel. <https://www.chesstech.org/2022/out-...> However Svidler himself has denied those rumours. So for the moment I'd assume missy is spreading fake news. |
|
Jan-30-23 | | SChesshevsky: Saw a decent broadcast team not too long ago. Sagar and Tania S. Think was Tata India from Chessbase India. Sagar has lots of energy and Tania usually does well. Might be a bit light on analysis. Though they had Anand on. But it was in middle game and I'm mostly interested in what they have to say in the openings. But didn't really mind as Sagar kept things interesting. Add in a Svidler and if the chemistry is good, might have a real winning combo. Don't know why haven't done Chessbase India since. Probably will check out this Tata broadcasts when get a chance. |

 | | MissScarlett: Round 5 in the Masters took place in Amsterdam: https://chess24.com/en/read/news/ta... The Site tags need changing, whatever <Stone> says about <Various cities>. |
|
Jan-30-23 | | stone free or die: <Missy> don't know PGN, her/is technological skills are the same level as the political. Z-base uses <[Site "Wijk aan Zee/Amsterdam(R5) NED">. Just so you know (the <right way>™) |

Jan-30-23 | | stone free or die: What the heck - are you spending all day on <CG> these days?! Don't you have a job?! |

|
Jan-31-23 | | ColdSong: Giri still progress, and only idiots will be annoyed of his Petrosian like way to do it,which is then more and more a Karpov like way so far. |
|
Jan-31-23
 | | alexmagnus: <Giri still progress, and only idiots will be annoyed of his Petrosian like way to do it,which is then more and more a Karpov like way so far.> It is Giri way. Stop comparing players to the past players to characterize their styles. I don't see it it any other sport. And such comparisons belittle both the present and the past player - one as a mindless copier with no own ideas, the other one as a caricature prototype. |
|
Jan-31-23 | | ColdSong: Why not comparing.Your Idea is simply weird. |
