Introduction
The Amateur Championship tournament is not concluded yet, nor the Tennyson and Ruskin competitions. The former suffered a delay owing to some ambiguity in the construction of clause 7 of the Rules. A meeting of the Council, therefore, took place on Monday, when the following resolution was passed: "That in view of the ambiguity in clause 7 of the regulations for the Newnes B.C.A. Amateur Challenge Cup, the sections shall play a one-game tournament for the four prizes, draws counting one half; and that a tie for the first place shall be played out, but that in the event of any other equality the prizes shall be divided." A one-game tournament will, therefore, have to be played amongst the first and second winner of each section, which promises to be an additional interesting tournament of four strong amateurs. (2)

The play in the sections of the Amateur Championship tournament is completed, and the winners are—In Section A; First, Mr Locock; second, Messrs Catchcart (sic) and Mills. The latter will have to play off a tie for second place. In Section B the winners are: First, Mr Anger; and second, Mr Wainwright. The four winners will have to play a one-game tourney, to determine the order of merit. (3)

The tie match between Messrs Cathcart and Mills for second place in Section A of the amateur championship tournament has been played off, and won by Mr Mills. Of two games played, Mr Mills won one game and drew one. (4)

In the Amateur Championship Tournament there were 16 players, and these were divided into two sections of 8 each; in section "B" however, only 6 players actually took part in the contest, Mr. Guest having entered himself in the Master Tournament, and Mr. Salomon not presenting himself for play. In the end in Section "A" Mr. Locock is first, whilst Messrs. Cathcart and Mills tie for second place and will have to play off to decided second place. In section "B," Mr. F. Anger is first with 4½ out of a possible 5, and Mr. G. E. Wainwright 4 out of 5. The Committee decided that the two top names of each section should play off a pool of 4 between themselves to decide the ultimate result, and the winner of this pool will hold the Challenge Cup for the ensuing year. This contest is not yet decided. (5)

The Amateur Championship Tie Match has made some progress and Mr. F. Anger is now leading by half a point. Whether he succeeds in keeping his advantage to the end remains to be a seen, a few days will decide this. (6)

Amateur Championship Tournament.—Mr. Mills promptly came up from Manchester to play off his game with Mr. Anger in the tie match standing over from last year's B.C.A. Congress, whilst Locock and Wainwright were requested to play at the same time. The matches took place on the 28th ult. at the British Chess, when Mills drew with Anger, or we should say rather Anger drew with Mills, because the latter had an easily won game with a piece a-head, which he left en prise by an oversight, and Locock beat Wainwright. The result being: Anger and Locock have to play off for first and second, whilst Mills and Wainwright divide third and fourth prizes. (7)

Conclusion
The tournament of the Amateur Championship of the British Chess Association and the Newnes Challenge Cup has at length been completed, and Mr. C. D. Locock comes out first, having beaten Mr. F. Anger in the tie match. Mr. Locock therefore is now Amateur Champion of the Association for the current year, and the holder of the valuable Newnes Cup. Mr. F. Anger takes second prize. The third and fourth prizes are divided between Messrs. D. Y. Mills and G. E. Wainwright. (8)
