  Teyss: Hi Geoff,

A shame all these deleted posts. You should save them and one day publish an uncensored "Sally Simpson's Deep Thoughts You Should Never have Seen" or "... You Wished You Hadn't Seen", depending on how bad they are. (We have a satirical paper here with disgraceful front pages and at the back the ones that were rejected: they're even worse.) Anyhow you are very far from being a troll. Just replace "t" with "d".

You selected Carlsen's most appealing picture. Norway's official tourist site should publish it with "Velkommen Til Norge" (apologies to our Nørwægiåns friends for the missing accents). I can already see the hoards of tourists flocking in. Even better with a small print saying "Guaranteed Messiah-free" and all CG users would join.

What percent of population commits suicide ? Very, veey small .

So , it is possible that a large percent of population of a particular country is more stress free (a state that is commonly called happiness) than other countries and yet the percent of people who commit suicide in that country is higher than many other countries.....

This analysis opens up a whole new discourse in the discussion. I can see the headlines "Communist Scandinavian governments encouraging its Christian citizens to kill themselves in order to balance the books".

Anyway...I have a personal theory regarding the absence of daylight during wintertime in places far North.

May-12-24  chatushkon64: <Carlsen... has not been part of an Olympiad winning team nor has he ever won a board medal, not even a bronze.>

Magnus Carlsen won bronze on board 1 in the last Chennai Olympiad.

Sally Simpson: ...and they have still not updated the Magnus page to show he won a bronze or even the fact he played in the 2022 Olympiad. Magnus Carlsen It appears since Magnus tossed the title in the can his biographer has lost interest.

Or perhaps not. Magnus winning 'The 2022 MrDodgy Invitational' has been added. A Mickey Mouse chess.com event played in November 2022 has been given more credence than The Chess Olympiad.

One good thing about my uncharacteristic error is the bronze medal Carlsen won has become more well known. Everybody is now talking about it. I think his page should have a picture of him with his bronze Olympiad medal. (he was tad lucky winning this medal, he needed two Queens to win this game; Carlsen vs Z Stanojoski, 2022 )

May-12-24  fabelhaft: <they have still not updated the Magnus page to show he won a bronze or even the fact he played in the 2022 Olympiad. It appears since Magnus tossed the title in the can his biographer has lost interest>

Biography updates is a chapter of its own. Nepo’s bio doesn’t mention his winning the penultimate Candidates, or playing a title match against Ding Liren, and <his peak ranking to date was world #11 in January 2017>. Giri’s bio only mentions results up until nine years ago, apart from a Dutch Championship, otherwise even his Candidates 2016 is too late to have been included.

  Sally Simpson: Hi fabelhaft,

Updating active players bio's is a thankless and until they retire, endless task. I got tripped up by the failure in Carlsen's bio on here to mention he even played in the 2022 Olympiad though him winning the 2023 rapid and blitz titles are there so somebody has been in and added things after 2022.

Maybe the site should trim down all the Bio's and just give the players concerned a link to their wiki page. Or maybe not. Carlsen's wiki page mentions he played in the 2022 Olympiad but they too fail to add this fabled bronze medal.

Nepo's bio here mentions he won an Olympiad bronze medal therefore I think it is only fair and just that Carlsen winning a bronze medal should be brought out in the open. It pains me to think that there are people wandering about on this planet who are unaware of Carlsen's bronze medal and should their curiosity be aroused by a stray thought; "I wonder if Magnus Carlsen has ever won an Olympiad bronze medal?" come here to find out and go away ill informed.

May-13-24  fabelhaft: <I got tripped up by the failure in Carlsen's bio on here to mention he even played in the 2022 Olympiad>

The things I would add first would be the first places in Tata and Norway Chess 2022 plus World Cup 2023. But the updates are rather uneven. In the bio of the reigning World Champion there is nothing from the last eight years apart from two lines about the latest World Championship cycle. Not a word about his great results 2017-19, 100 games undefeated and first place in Sinquefield Cup 2019.

  Sally Simpson: I'll do it Miss Scarlett, please delete all of Carlsen's current bio and post;

"Magnus won the world title in 2013 and resigned it as the unbeaten champion in 2022 the same year he won an Olympiad board one bronze medal. For more information see (add link to his wiki page ) "

May-13-24  nok: I submit this

"Magnus is an olympic bronze medalist (2022) and five time world champion (2013, '14, '16, '18, '21) though in the last four he was directly seeded in the final, a practice he protested before repeatedly profiting off it.

If you're a young player you'd better lose to him or be reverential lest you be banned from his gambling-funded circuit."

  Sally Simpson: Hi Nok,

Too long. These bio's should be short and if the reader is at all remotely interested then they have to follow the wiki link.

And who reads these bio's anyway. They are far too long and as we have discovered, rarely updated. I suspect who ever started these bio's now sitting in limbo have either has passed on or gone to another site and nobody has bothered taking them over because this site's motto is; "It's Not My job."

I'm all for brevity in bio's and short reports on chess event. See;https://www.redhotpawn.com/chess-bl... for my report on this threads event.

"One player won the Candidates in Toronto, seven other players didn’t. " and that was it.

Straight to the point and note this also covers Women's candidates as well. A two birds with one stone type of thing. No need for names. Everyone knows who won the candidates.

I'm currently working on Max Euwe's bio. Most people will know he was the world champion from 1935-1937 so I can leave that bit out. His one line bio now reads; "Olympiad board one bronze medal winner Stockholm 1937."

HeMateMe: Don't they already have a St. Olav? Magnus might be overkill.
May-14-24  Lambda: Calrsen isn't a "five time world champion", he's a world champion with four successful defences Taking the title off the incumbent and defeating a challenger are two very different things.

  Sally Simpson: Hi HeMateMe,

Had a letter back from the Pope.

Hi Sally,

We already have a Saint Magnus so the answer is no. But thank you for letting us know your Magnus won a bronze medal at the 2022 Olympiad and at the next 'Pilgrims of Hope' ceremony we will pray this will be added to his bio.

May-14-24  SkySports: <Sally Simpson:

Oddly, the Italian wiki page instead includes that bronza medal (with many other info) in the "palmarès" column...

Sounds somewhat wordy to me, as he was World Champion there is no need to point out he was playing board 1.

Indeed there is a St. Magnus: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnu...

I am not sure if he was ever canonized by the Vatican, that was not standard procedure before the 13th century I believe. So this could be a barrier to break for Carlsen; although becoming a saint does have its drawbacks of course.

  Sally Simpson: Hi Troller,

You are correct, it was too long. It now reads;

Euwe: 'Bronze Medal 1937.'

I've removed Stockholm because everyone knows the 1937 Olympiad was held in Stockholm and left out 'Max' again everyone knows his first name.

Hi SkySports,

We have to get the person who does the Carlsen Italian Wiki page here. Such dedication to a task I have not witnessed anywhere. Clear, precise and up date. One of the few places to mention Carlsen's 2022 Bronzo (sic) medal.

Get him here, nobody will mind if does the bio's in Italian. When I was in Rome trying to get our Magnus his sainthood I picked up a smattering of Italian. It is fairly easy to master. Mind you I've always been good at communicating in a foreign tongue. I can say; 'I resign.' in 22 different languages.

If the global West wants to balance the books, all they have to do is cull the elderly with all those pesky pensions… oh wait…
