 | | offramp: Former World Champion Anand made the ceremous first move of the round. Anand played 1.e4 for White, and then there was the silly pantomime, when the <real> player of White retracted 1. e4. In 30 seconds later he actually decided to play 1.e4. But he wanted to play <HIS> 1. e4, not <Aanand's> 1. e4. Why don't these players tell the celebrities what they want to play? |
|
Mar-25-25
 | | MissScarlett: Hiding their preparation, of course. |

Why don't these players tell the celebrities what they want to play?>Or: Why are there people without manners and respect? I don't know but we see them everywhere these days, even in high places :-) |
|
Mar-26-25 | | Olavi: It could be a little awkward; I mean, I have often chosen my first move as White only at the board... |
|
Mar-26-25
 | | offramp: I haven't been to Eforie (Nord or Sud), but I have been to Constanța which is about 10 miles away. I had two weeks there, and spent 1000s of levs but it came to about £20. I spent some money on the beach hustlers, they were good. I don't remember drawing or winning. |

Mar-26-25
 | | offramp: Today, someone is going to be <crowned> as the European Champion of Chess! Have you ever seen that quote by the politician <John Nance <Cactus Jack> Garner>?
"The [European Champion of Chess title] isn't worth a bucket of warm [water]." |

 | | FSR: Yagiz Kaan Erdogmus finished half a point out of first. He will turn 14 in a couple of months. He became a grandmaster at 12 years, 9 months, and 29 days. |

 | | Check It Out: Who won? Was there a tie break? The official site is woefully short on details. |

 | | moronovich: <Check It Out: Who won? Was there a tie break? The official site is woefully short on details.> Bluebaum won on tiebreaks. |

Mar-28-25
 | | Check It Out: <moro> I clicked on that link and it was some sort of hacker thing! Best delete and put up the correct link ASAP! |
|
Mar-28-25
 | | perfidious: I will blow the whistle, cos <moronovich> can no longer delete the post himself. Humorous story of a self-own from twenty years ago: I suggested that a chess and poker-playing friend go to a link, but made a slight error in posting it. The info I gave actually connected to a site for young women to hook up with poker sugar daddies, only discovering my oversight when my friend sent me a 'what the hell?' response. |

 | | Check It Out: <perf> thanks! that website started doing all kinds of weird things and it took a long time and multiple button pushers to close down. No sugar babes, though :D |
|
Mar-28-25
 | | perfidious: <CIO....No sugar babes, though :D> You wuz robbed. |

 | | moronovich: Sorry, for the inconvinience ):
Usually Chessbase is a well respected place. |
|
Mar-28-25
 | | Check It Out: Hi <moro>, I think it still is, but you missed an "s" in your link. Here's the correct link: https://en.chessbase.com/ |
|
Mar-29-25
 | | moronovich: I am an s-hole ;) |
|
Mar-29-25
 | | perfidious: Last month, I tried posting a story on the sports page and was not allowed to give the link cos it had the following content: <....in a hole....> With a dash between all the words, so the software thought I was using a naughty word. |

Mar-30-25
 | | Atterdag: Global chess events seem to have a slow cadence these times. Apparently, we shall have to wait a full month until an elite tournament (in Poland) appears on the agenda. And then another month until we see Carlsen's participation (in Norway). More than ever I think it would be nice with some distraction from the alarming and depressing news thrown at our faces every day. |

Mar-30-25
 | | MissScarlett: Are the Women’s World Championship match and the Paris leg of the Freestyle Tour indelicate for your palette? |
|
Mar-30-25
 | | PawnSac: Actually, I think the women's WCC will prove an interesting match. Not so interested in Freestyle, but it's ok. |
|
Mar-30-25
 | | Atterdag: My mistake - I didn't know the Women's WC was impending (took my info from Live Ratings 2700Chess). Of course it has my interest. Like PawnSac: Freestyle, not so much. |
