Mar-21-04 | | Pall: It was a nice tournament.(I was there and got autographs from Timman, Short and Kasparov). Overall a very good tournament. And I only watched a third of the blitz games so dont ask me about them. |
Mar-21-04 | | TheTurk: chessgames.com -
i repeat for michlo and my self
"what of the game in which Carlsen beat Karpov?" |
Mar-21-04 | | Calchexas: <TheTurk>:
Read MoonlitKnight's post above. |
Mar-21-04 | | TheTurk: calchexas, yes yes, but why isnt the game posted here? id like to see it!
its not even posted on carlsen's page. |
Mar-21-04 | | Taidanii: Kasparov is tearing this one up. Rapid seems to be his forte' |
Mar-22-04 | | Pall: The moves were not recorded. And even if you had the moves the computers were junk and they never showed anything correct. |
Mar-22-04 | | ruylopez900: Congrats to Kasparov for getting back to his winning ways. Hopefully for him he can continue his run of good performance (ok, =2nd at Linares and 1st at Reykjavik isn't quite a streak yet). Good showing to Short as well, I do believe it's been a while since he competed at this level. |
Mar-22-04 | | TheTurk: ruy: yes it has. chessbase was recently talking about how short would have to soon be back at the supergm level if he wanted any competition, considering the way he's been humerderlizing his opponents lately. |
Mar-22-04 | | Taidanii: How old is Karpov now? |
Mar-22-04
 | | Benzol: <Taidanii> Karpov was on 23rd of May 1951 so he will be 53 this May. |
Mar-23-04 | | Taidanii: Hmm...53 isn't so bad, I suppose. |
Mar-23-04
 | | tamar: <taidanii> Ages are interesting to compare. At Karpov's age right now, 52, Emanuel Lasker (born Dec 24,1868) was contesting Capablanca in Havana. It was a low point in his career, not winning a game, and considered surpassed by the new generation, but he came back to win New York 1924 ahead of Capablanca. So you never know... |
Mar-24-04 | | ruylopez900: <tamar> Not only did he finish 1st ahead of Capablanca, but also what is considered the strongest field ever. Reti, Alekhine, Tartakower, Marshall, Yates, Bogojibulow, Edward Lasker, Janowski and Maroczy. Considering the whole field makes the win that much sweeter! |
Mar-24-04
 | | tamar: <ruylopez900> Winning New York 1924 was absolutely one of the top accomplishments in chess history, moreso that it was done by a 55 year old man. Final scores: Lasker 16 (of 20)
Capablanca 14.5 Alekhine 12 Marshall 11 Reti 10.5 Maroczy 10 Bogoljubow 9.5 |
Mar-24-04 | | ruylopez900: For those interested I have a collection of games of Richard Reti's games at the 1924 New York International (missing three that aren't in the database). |
Mar-25-04
 | | Benzol: <ruylopez900> What three are missing from the database? |
Mar-25-04 | | ruylopez900: <Benzol> The missing games are Reti-Marshall, Marshall-Reti and Reti-Bogoljibulow (I hope I got the last one right). All were 1924 and in New York. I haven't been able to find gamescores for them yet. Hope this helps! |

Mar-25-04 | | ruylopez900: <AdrianP> Great!! Thanks alot!! Two questions, 1.Where'd you find them? and also 2.Have you submitted them to chessgames.com yet? Thanks again! |
Mar-25-04
 | | Benzol: <ruylopez900> If Adrian hadn't uploaded them I would have. I presume that Adrian has Alyekhin's book of the New York 1924 tournament. <AdrianP> Ade thanks for uploading those. Btw what did Fritz say about my game? |
Mar-26-04 | | ruylopez900: Thanks again to both! |
Mar-29-04 | | AdrianP: <Benzol> I'm afraid that I haven't yet put your game through fritz - but will do soon. I got the games from the chessbase's Mega Database. Do you have Alekhine's book of the 1924 tournament - is it available in algebraic - what's it like? <Ruy> I have submitted them via the upload utility, but there seems to be quite a lag in getting them onto the site. I submitted a game between Kasparov and Woody Harrelson a couple of weeks ago and it hasn't made it here. |
Mar-29-04
 | | Benzol: <AdrianP> Ade I have a Dover edition of Alyekhin's 1924 Tournament Book. It's in English descriptive and the annotations while good are not embedded in the text, so I wouldn't rave about it as a well produced book. If you persevere with it, it is rewarding but I don't find it very user friendly. |
