European Team Championship (2003)

The 14th European Team Championship was contested between 37 national teams in Pavilion #3 at the International Fair Complex in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, 11-20 October 2003, as a 9-round Swiss system tournament. It was organized by the European Chess Union, the Ministry of Youth and Sport of Bulgaria, the Bulgarian Chess Federation, and the Municipality of Plovdiv. Rest day: 16 October (after Round 5). Time control: 90 minutes for the whole game, with 30 seconds added per move starting from move 1. Rounds started at 2:30 pm local time. Chief organizer: Vasil Ivanov. Tournament director: Kamen Toshkov. Chief arbiter: Zdravko Nedev. Number of games played: 648.

Russia (Svidler, Bareev, Grischuk, Morozevich, Khalifman) won with 17/18 match points (+8 =1 -0), ahead of Israel (15/18) and Georgia (3rd on tiebreak with 13/18).
