Corsica Masters (2006)

The 10th Corsica Masters was a knockout tournament played in Bastia, Corsica, France, 4-7 November 2006. The field consisted of the leading 13 players after Round 6 of the Corsica Masters Open (2006) (4-5 November), and three seeded players (Bacrot, Anand and Milov). The 13 players finished the Open (Rounds 7-9) on 5 November. The four rounds had two games each, plus tiebreak games if necessary. Time control: 10 minutes for the whole game, with 3 seconds added per move from move 1. If 1-1, then 'Blitz' games (details not known). The prize fund was 100,000 euros, with 20,000 euros to the winner. Chief organizer: Léo Battesti and the Corsica Chess Club.

Rustam Kasimdzhanov won by beating Anand 1½-½ in the final.

There are three missing games: Golod vs Anand 1/2 (Round 1.2), Gagunashvili vs Motylev 1/2 (Round 1.3), and Fressinet vs Bacrot 0-1 (Round 2.2).

The Corsica Masters Open (2006) was won by Chernin, and the Bastia Open (2006) was for players <2200. Most of the players also participated in the 9-round Swiss Rapid tournament Venaco Open (2006) (2-3 November) (Gurevich won, after which Daniel Fridman won the 4-player KO), and in the 9-round Swiss Rapid tournament Ajaccio Open (2006) (30-31 October) (Kasimdzhanov won, after which Vladimir P Malaniuk won the 8-player KO). All tournaments part of the "Open International de Corse" or "Corsican Circuit" 2006.

The games provided by the organizer were all dated 5 November, which must have added to the confusion (in ChessBase, TWIC and others). CG may have errors too..
