<Yasser Seirawan, the United States champion, led a 204-player field to win the Lugano International Open Tournament in Switzerland. The 27-year-old Seattle grandmaster, who had previously triumphed in Lugano, in 1983, this time posted a winning score of 7 1/2-1 1/2.Sharing second place in the nine-round Swiss-system competition were three grandmasters, Radoslav Simic of Yugoslavia, John Van der Wiel of the Netherlands and Curt Hansen of Denmark, along with two international masters, Ivan Sokolov of Yugoslavia and Jeroen Piket of the Netherlands. Each scored 7-2. Both Sokolov and Piket will be credited with grandmaster norms.> Source: New York Times, April 21, 1987.
