Kibitzer's Corner
Aug-13-07  Karpova: Congratulations to Moiseenko for winning with 7.5 points! Magnus, Gashimov and Lie follow with 7 points.

<Tabanus>, did you enjoy the tournament?

Aug-13-07  dabearsrock1010: magnus has to lose some rating points after this.
Aug-13-07  EeEk: He lost 0,2 rating points.
Aug-13-07  percyblakeney: Ratings are not to be too trusted here, for example Gunnar Berg Hanssen is 2242 but given as 2481 in all but one of his games. Karsten Larsen is given as 2580 except in the first round, where his actual 2325 rating is given. deFirmian isn't 2637 but 2540, and so on.
Aug-13-07  pawnofdoom: Those ratings in the viewable games are not their current ratings, but their highest achieved ratings, I think
Aug-13-07  percyblakeney: <Those ratings in the viewable games are not their current ratings, but their highest achieved ratings, I think>

It seems to be that way in some cases. That is strange in itself since what matters is the rating now, and sometimes the numbers are hard to comprehend, as in A Stefanova vs G Berg Hanssen, 2007

Stefanova (current rating 2481, higest rating 2560), is given as 2520, and Hanssen (current rating 2242, highest rating 2489), is given as 2481...

Aug-13-07  laskereshevsky: not the life's best tournament x the GM Nick DeFirmian....
Aug-14-07  nhat8121: he loses rating points by winning 4 games and tied 3?
Aug-14-07  Karpova: <nhat8121>
whom are you talking about - Carlsen?
Carlsen won 5 games and drew 4 (not all games are in the database) http://www.arcticchess.org/engindex...
Aug-14-07  lazerus: Why is this tourney called the artic chess challenge?
Aug-14-07  Calli: Well, its being held here: http://maps.google.com/maps?q=Troms...

What else could you call it? ;->

Aug-14-07  lazerus: Thanks for the link Calli, cleared up any room for confusion
Aug-16-07  nhat8121: So, Carlsen loses points in this tourney?
Aug-17-07  contra: "Attic chess challenge" would have been better in my opinion.
Aug-19-07  EeEk: Magnus lost 0,2 points.
Aug-19-07  pawnofdoom: Has anyone seen Moiseenko's games? He got white int he first 3, then black 4 times in a row for the next games, and ended the tournament with 2 whites. Weird
Aug-19-07  nescio: <pawnofdoom> In fact Moiseenko had a remarkable normal schedule: White in rounds 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9, Black in rounds 2, 4, 6, and 8.
Aug-20-07  pawnofdoom: Oops, i read off the crosstable games, and assumed they were in the order of the rounds, and in the order Moiseenko's games were displayed, they did show him with so many consecutive colors, but <nescio> is right

GrahamClayton: I am surprised that the Scandinavian Defence was not played in a tournament named after the Arctic!
