Hoogovens (1995)

The 57th Hoogovens tournament was a 32-player knockout event held in Wijk aan Zee, the Netherlands, 13-28 January 1995. The matches consisted of two (four in the final) Classical games, with playoff games if necessary. Time control: 120 minutes for the first 40 moves, then 60 more minutes for the next 20 moves, then 30 more minutes to finish the game. If 1-1, two playoff games (Rapid 30 min), and if still equal (2-2), individual sudden death games (Rapid 15 min). Those knocked out would bring points with them into the Hoogovens Open (1995) Swiss tournament that was running in parallel. First prize: 15,000 Dutch guilders. Second prize 9,000 guilders. Chief arbiter: Thomas van Beekum. N games played: 98.

Aleksey Dreev beat Evgeny Bareev 2.5-1.5 in the final.
