Vienna (1923)
The 1st Carl Schlechter Memorial Chess Tournament was held in his home city of Vienna, Austria. Twelve masters, including longtime Viennese players Savielly Tartakower and Rudolf Spielmann, were invited to participate. Tartakower took first place, undefeated, employing Schlechter's own 1. e4 in each of his games as white in memory of the world champion challenger.

Dec-11-13  Karpova: Karl-Schlechter-Memorial Tournament 1923

Opening Ceremony on November 15, 1923. Welcoming speeches by Hanacek (from the "Arbeiterschachklub" in the Cafe "Universale" in the Burggasse, the Chess Club hosting the event), Professor Dr. Krejcik (Chairman of the Austrian Chess Federation) and Heuecker from the Berlin Chess Federation.
