Aeroflot Open (Rapid Final) (2013)

The third and last stage of the 12th Aeroflot Open was a 16-player knockout tournament held on 16-17 February 2013 at the InfoSpace international exhibition centre in Moscow, Russia. The field consisted of the eight Aeroflot Open (Rapid KO) (2013) winners, and eight invited star players: Mamedyarov, Grischuk, Karjakin, Karpov, Nepomniachtchi, Svidler, Wang Hao and Andreikin. If drawn, the 2-game mini-matches would be decided by an Armageddon game. Time control: 15 minutes for the whole game, with 10 seconds added per move from move one. In the Armageddons, White had 5 minutes to Black’s 4, with a 3-second increment from move 61, while Black would win the match with a draw. Chief organizer: Ilva Levitov. Chief arbiter: Alexander Raetsky.
