Sep-03-14 | | dumbgai: <Hou will win the Women's Grand Prix if she wins or draws.> Even if she loses, she can still probably count on at least half a point against the struggling L'Ami. |
Sep-03-14 | | waustad: Probably even FIDE will finally realize that Ju Wenjun is a GM. She has many norm worthy performances but seems to be short by a signiture. I suspect they just wanted another application fee. |
Sep-04-14 | | notyetagm: FIDE Women's Grand Prix Sharjah (2014) Hou Yifan just won the Women's Grand Prix because Humpy drew her White game against Zhu Chen. Congratulations to Hou Yifan, who will be playing in the next Women's WC match! ----

Sep-04-14 | | dumbgai: Ju Wenjun wearing a cute mini-skirt today. Isn't this illegal? |

Sep-04-14 | | Dr. Overlord: <dumbgai: Ju Wenjun wearing a cute mini-skirt today. Isn't this illegal?> She couldn't have weared that in my home. My wife would have thrown her out. |
Sep-04-14 | | notyetagm: <dumbgai: Ju Wenjun wearing a cute mini-skirt today. Isn't this illegal?> Pictures please. I am *so* in lust with Ju Wenjun. ;-) |

Sep-04-14 | | 42eyes: Now not is only her hemline the highest, so is her place in the standings. Ju Wenjun leads over Hou Yifan after round 9! |
Sep-04-14 | | dumbgai: <notyetagm> Thought you might like that. ;-) You might also like to know that with her win and Humpy's draw, we now have a new women's world #3 in the live ratings. |
Sep-04-14 | | notyetagm: <dumbgai: <notyetagm> Thought you might like that. ;-)> Indeed. :-) |
Sep-05-14 | | geeker: In Round 10 we have the titanic L'Ami-Muminova clash :) ... perhaps one of the players will manage to win a game!
Actually, I feel sorry for the bad event L'Ami is having; Muminova has made a few draws here and stabilized her performance somewhat (previous GP was dreadful). |
Sep-05-14 | | ljfyffe: <geeker><titanic ...clash> The Titanic sails at dawn. Which side are you on? |
Sep-05-14 | | geeker: Well, I sympathise with both players. Muminova has been getting pummelled the past several GP tourneys. L'Ami is appearing in her first, but it's been a disaster and she's been in terrible form. A draw would be reasonable, but I think Alina needs the win more, so I'll give her slight preference. |
Sep-05-14 | | geeker: This just in: L'Ami sacked a bunch of material but only had a perpetual, so the clash of the Titans is drawn. |
Sep-05-14 | | ljfyffe: It has been said that you only learn by losing...in which case, I should be a super-grandmaster! I'm only an average club player. GOOD LUCK TO BOTH PLAYERS. |
Sep-05-14 | | ljfyffe: P.S. Thanks for the info! |
Sep-05-14 | | dumbgai: Ju Wenjun wearing a miniskirt again, this time pink... |
Sep-05-14 | | waustad: Since Batchimeg Tuvshintugs drew with Hou Yifan, her performance rating is still over 2600 after 10 rounds. Even if she loses to Dronavalli Harika tomorrow, it could still be used for a 10 game GM norm. She may just sit on the norm for a while because she isn't close to the title yet. An interim goal might be to get the IM title. |
Sep-05-14 | | geeker: "Chimi" Tuvshintugs is a dangerous player. She beat Hou Yifan at Geneva 2013, and I recall she beat some GMs at the 2006 US Championship. |
Sep-05-14
 | | Penguincw: Ouch! Hou Yifan has lost 7.3 rating points in the last 3 rounds, and she also trails Ju Wenjun by half a point. Luckily, she has white against Alina L'Ami tomorrow (almost a mismatch there) while Ju Wenjun has black against Kosintseva. BTW: I noticed that Ju Wenjun is "only" a WGM. Has she had any IM or GM norms yet? I understand that she needs at least a draw tomorrow (TPR would be 2604 then, according to FIDE) but how many norms does she have? |

Sep-06-14 | | Eduardo Leon: <<ljfyffe> <<geeker>titanic ...clash> The Titanic sails at dawn. Which side are you on?> The iceberg's. |
Sep-06-14 | | ljfyffe: <Eduardo Leon>I meant: which side of the ship are you on? Just joking! It's a quote from a Bob Dylan song. And Elizabeth Bishop, the deceased poet, who spent her youth in Nova Scotia, wrote, in one of her poems:"I'd rather be an iceberg than a ship" which may explain from whence Simon and Garfunkel got the idea of "I'd rather be a hammer than a nail/Yes I would/If I surely could...". |

Sep-06-14 | | HowDoesTheHorsieMove: <Ju Wenjun wearing a miniskirt again> You call that a miniskirt? Maybe in the 1920s it was. |
Sep-06-14 | | notyetagm: <HowDoesTheHorsieMove: <Ju Wenjun wearing a miniskirt again> You call that a miniskirt? Maybe in the 1920s it was.> It's short enough. :-)
I. LIKE. IT!
And by the way, Ju Wenjun won the Sharjah Grand Prix on tiebreak today by drawing her last round game against T. Kosintseva. Congratulations to Ju and her mini-skirts! |
