May-12-22    Olavi: <Helios727> Everybody who scored 50% in the 1977 USSR championship qualified for 1978 (eight - Petrosian gave it a miss), top seven finishers from the first league in Askhabad were added plus Georgadze as local boy, Kasparov from here and about the reason for Sveshnikov's qualification I don't know. They did not have rating spots. May-12-22    Olavi: Ivanov scored 9/13 here, lost on tie break. May-12-22    Helios727: <Olavi> Since Tseshkovsky advanced to the 1978 USSR Championship and Ivanov did not, is it not more likely that the scores here are correct, and that Tseshkovsky prevailed over Ivanov and Panchenko on tie breaks? May-13-22    perfidious: As <Olavi> states, Kasparov was the only qualifier from Daugavpils. May-13-22    Olavi: <Helios727> Ivanov's score above is 8,5/12, correct is 9/13. Kupreichik, Mikhalchishin and Kapengut also scored 8,5/13 in this tournament. Tseshkovsky advanced to the final as tied winner of the Askhabad First League: http://www.chessmetrics.com/cm/CM2/...
