It would have been very interesting if Karjakin had made it past Nakamura in the Speed Chess Championship. He was just a bit off his best form that day, and Nakamura played very well. |

You make it sound as if Karjakin is a stronger blitz player than Carlsen. Carlsen has without doubt demonstrated that he's the strongest blitz player (and if you're watching online tournaments, he's also shown to be superior in 1 0 bullet as well). Nakamura beat Karjakin, and Carlsen crushed Nakamura in the last Chess.com blitz tournament. That in itself should give you some indication. It's true that Karjakin is stronger in blitz than he used to be, but he's still not as strong as Nakamura or Carlsen. And no, we don't want another Carlsen - Karjakin match. I'd much prefer to see Aronian vs Carlsen. |

Karjakin won the St. Louis blitz last summer and the blitz WC 2016 (placed second in 2017). Naka has a bronze in the WC as his best result. Now Magnus is another matter... |

I would like to see it. But I am looking forward to all the potential match ups. My preferences, in reverse order:
8. Caruana. I just think he is the least impressive of the candidates' field
7. Ding Liren. I don't know much about him, and I think Bu is a better match up, from the Chinese players
6. Grischuk. He isn't the strongest of all the contenders, so the match up isn't as exciting. Honestly, I prefer MVL over Grischuk to be in the Candidates, but Grischuk is worthy of it.
5. Mamedyarov
4. Kramnik. Interesting just to see how he would perform, 18 years after his first WC title.
3. Karjakin. It was exciting and entertaining the last time, so why not?
2. So. I love Wesley's style of chess - it is highly creative. I think he is the most imaginative player in the world right now.
1. Aronian. A super-solid player who is also a great sportsman. |

Mamedyarov> no comment. He is in the candidates, will entertain us with exciting games once in a while but that is not enough. not even for a #5 result. <4. Kramnik> realistically, the wild card given to him is his last chance to write history again. either top or flop. who knows? <3. Karjakin> was doing well last time. I expect Karjakin 2.0 doing extremely well. My favourite. <2. So> So, what? The guy has sacrificed so much for being there, but he cannot handle pressure and when opposed to a novelty in the game he immediately switches to draw mode. <1.
