Hastings 1972/73

The Premier tournament of the 48th Hastings Chess Congress was held in Falaise Hall, White Rock Gardens, Hastings, England from 27 December 1972 to 13 January 1973. Rest days: 1, 8 & 12 January. At the opening ceremony, James D Slater offered £5000 to the next British player to become a Grandmaster. Hartston fell half a point short of a GM norm after losing in the last two rounds to Wolfgang Uhlmann and Bent Larsen.
