Hoogovens Group B (1999)

Played in De Moriaan community centre, Wijk aan Zee, Netherlands, 19-31 January 1999, with rest days on January 22 and 27. Smbat Lputian won clear first with 8.5/11, and took home 5,000 Dutch guilders (about $2,570 or $3,900 in 2019 value). Two of his wins (in rounds 5 and 7) were by using the French defense.
