Jul-16-19  Pedro Fernandez: <Again the Caro-Kann surprises us!> This time the victim was the strong player Nepomniachtchi, in just 25 moves! Okay, it is clear that 19...Qa7?! was a dubious move, but, honestly, I don't see the consequences of the move 20...g4? I was surprised about how bad was this move. However Dominguez got it. Who will win this interesting tournament? We don't know yet.

Nisipeanu - Kulaots 1-0

Perfectly logic my dear <KS>. However the first and fourth predictions are not that sure (IMO). I mean, it could be the former 1-0 and the latter 0-1, or viceversa! Greetings.
Jul-16-19  Keyser Soze: <Pedro> lol sorry posted on wrong forum.
Jul-16-19  parmetd: <plang> me too. Me too.
Jul-17-19  Pedro Fernandez: <<Keyser Soze>: <Pedro> lol sorry posted on wrong forum.> Why! I think what you wrote entails perfectly at this forum. Rd. 4, just the GMs who are participating, and your predictions are totally logic and quite probable that you are right! Greetings!

Hey my great friends <Planck> and <Octo π>, too hard English for me. I don't understand the context. What it does mean? Greetings for both!

Good afternoon <Pedro> !

It is just irony.Saying the opposite of the real wish.As everyone here would like to be as "weak",as one of the 2600-2700 players.

Jul-17-19  Pedro Fernandez: <<moronovich>: <Hey my great friends <Planck> and <Octo ð>, too hard English for me. I don't understand the context. What it does mean? Greetings for both!> Good afternoon <Pedro> !

It is just irony.Saying the opposite of the real wish.As everyone here would like to be as "weak",as one of the 2600-2700 players.> Hey my great <monorovich> (you know very well I don't call you <moron...>), What's up! Time to communicate with you. Ok! But what a good inference have you! When <plang> writes: <I wish I was such a "weakling">, is it not correct: <I wish I ``were'' such a "weakling">? Greetings my friend!

PS. I would have write: I would wish to be a "weak" player as those guys.

Jul-17-19  Pedro Fernandez: BTW <monorovich>, use the following link to write correctly some math symbols as in <HTML> some published tables at the WEB don't work:

http://www.alanwood.net/demos/symbo...

Please use the ``Numeric reference'' column. For instance, the uppercase omega is: Ω whereas the lowercase omega is: ω

Please look at the referred column.

Jul-17-19  parmetd: <Pedro>
It's irony and sarcasm creating a joke because one poster implied there folks are weak for being under 2800 and we are echoing our desire to be so weak as to be 2760+.
Jul-18-19  Pedro Fernandez: Yes my dear <parmetd>, and, as you can see, <moronovich> told me about the joke. Thank a lot my dear friend and a warm greetings for you and also to <plang>!
Jul-19-19  thegoodanarchist: When Kulaots gets a win, it is customary to say "Kudos to Kaido"
Jul-19-19  csmath: Wojtaszek completely messed up winning position and was forced to trade queens after couple of errors in such a way that he was not even able to get a passer.

Horrendously misguided play by the Polish GM. He had a couple of options to win the game after 59 moves and he missed them all.

He will not have a good sleep tonight.

Rapport did try hard to win his game including exchange sacrifice but could not find a plan to his advantage.

I begin to like the guy, he is surely hard working player.

Jul-20-19  Pedro Fernandez: No game today. One regrets all of those issues occurring at chessgames.com. Hopefully all will be fine here again.

Annie K.: Sorry - we have Dominguez-Kulaots on live relay now.
Jul-20-19  csmath: That game is now pretty much dead. It was interesting until Kuloats blew huge advantage from the opening.

Nisipeanu played another bad game and suffered another defeat in a miniature. Kuloats, Fridman, and Nisipeanu are fighting for the honor of the last place. Since Nisipeanu has made that two years in a row I declare him a favorite.

Isn't it amazing that Germans organized so many chess competitions and yet there is no GM from the country that could be considered a super GM even after all the imports (Yusupov, Naiditsch, Nisipeanu, Khenkin, Baramidze ...)

If your rating is above 2600 and your great-great-grandpa has some German blood you could also play in Dortmund.

Jul-20-19  john barleycorn: I heard, Wesley So documented his blood line to Ferdinand Blumentritt.
Jul-20-19  csmath: Fridman is also another imported one from Latvia, this is Naiditsch connection I guess. If he survives encounter with Nepo tomorrow he will be likely invited the next year too.

There is something strange going on with Latvian chess players. Shirov was Spanish, back in Latvia nowadays back in Spain again, Gutman was Israeli then German, Naiditsch was German and now he is Azeri, Shabalov is currently American, Rausis the Cheater was Czech also to be found in Bangladesh and Algeria. It looks like Latvian Chess Federation is a front for foreign immigration services.

Jul-20-19  Pedro Fernandez: And Tal in Russia (URSS) my dear <csmath).
Jul-21-19  csmath: You could go further to Aron Nimzovitsch.

Onto the tournament at hand: Fridman joins the cellar after attempting to play for a draw and making a bad blunder in a bad position. Good for Nepo, somehow he salvaged this tournament after playing quite uneven chess, as it is the way with him.

Jul-21-19  whiteshark: DORTMUND 2019

<1> Dominguez Perez <4½/7> (+2700)*

<2-5> Nepomniachtchi, Wojtaszek, Rapport, Radjabov <4/7> (all +2700)

<6-8> Nisipeanu (2667), Kulaots (2574), Fridman (2644) <2½/7> **

* One of them ended up a little luckier.
** The point suppliers are at the end of the table as expected.

Jul-21-19  csmath: Well, indeed. Two groups of players, no distinction between the guys in each group.

Kulaots did play active chess in the last two rounds while Nisipeanu and Fridman were basically trying to survive. In the top group Nepo played his usual self, Rapport was solid, Dominguez the same with a little luck against Kuloats, and Wojtaszek with a lack of luck against Fridman. But that is how it often goes. There was also a Radjabov, not a bad game today.

I don't see any of these guys as a challenge for WC competition although I am sure there will be a lot of praise heaped onto the Cuban/American.

Jul-21-19  JimNorCal: csmath: "I am sure there will be a lot of praise heaped onto the Cuban/American."

Me heap big fan of the Cuban American!
Wish him well!
Also big fan of Kulaots. Really love that guy. Not a big result in this tournament but great to see him playing strong chess deep into his career.
