Introduction
E. C. Nichols, H. A Bury and H. D. Smith was appointed a committee on rules for the Tourney, and their report, which was adopted, provided that the playing be done by pairs; the name of each player being written on a slip and drawn from a hat, the two coming out together to play together. Under this arrangement the following gentlemen are pitted against each other:

Wm. Lilienfeld vs. H. D. Smith.
M. Desenberg vs. Capt. O. E. Michilis (sic; Michaelis).
C. W. Penny vs D. W. de Normandie.
J. P. Swann vs. Henry Harding.
Two blanks were missed with the names, which were drawn by E. C. Nichols and Henry Swann: This gives them the privilege of not playing in the first round.

All these gentlemen have entered in the first class, and but few entries have been made in the second class.

The Association adjourned until nine o'clock this morning, when play in this tournament will commence, after the drawing in the second class.

The following celebrated players are here besides those who have not entered the lists in the tournament:

Fred. H. Elder, Detroit, Isaac S. Bocker, Owosso; H. A. Bury, Detroit; Rev. Henry J. Schalges, Bay City; Edward Feldner, Detroit.

Two games were played in the tournament last evening between M. Desenburg, of Kalamazoo, and Capt. O. E. Michilis (sic; Michaelis), of Dearborn, Capt. Michilis winning both.

Several interesting games were played outside the Tourney. (1)
